That must explain why people in Cleveland were asking, Is that a space station in front of the moon?

“Hey, Miss Sun. What could I say? I tried to hold you, but the moon got in the way—” Boz Scaggs.

Haddon Heights, NJ yesterday. Beautiful sunny morning and early afternoon. Looking forward to the eclipse. Just as it’s starting, the clouds roll in. Just as it’s ending, the clouds go away and it’s a beautiful day again. Most boring eclipse ever.

Makes sense. You can’t see the sun with the moon in the way.

If you position the space station just right you can see an eclipse anytime you want.

Of all the dozens (hundreds?) of moons in this solar system, the total solar eclipse with the corona lit up like we saw here yesterday can only happen on Earth with our moon.

Yes I saw the eclipse, I even took a picture. But not as much fun as the one I saw in June 1983 in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea, they had a big party big party. lots of girls and beer.

Did anyone turn into a werewolf, or gain superpowers from viewing the moon?

It cracks me up to see all the people who think staring at the Sun is what an eclipse is about. If you are in your own neighborhood when one happens, think about the darkness, the change in birds, insects and animals nearby, the subtle change in temperature.

It’s not the same as standing around with a bunch of other people with their eyes covered. You can “watch” the Sun being eclipsed on video, anytime, but you don’t get that ethereal change in ambience. That’s the difference between “observation” and “experience”.

Spoiled the view. Like when the mountains get in the way of a perfectly decent vista.
