So funny! A few years ago, when I moved into my current place, I placed some bird feeders out in the yard, as I had a few trees for that. Then came the squirrels! They took over. In fact, I’m pretty sure they were bringing in squirrels from other neighborhoods. They were having parties out there! I looked out one morning and there were squirrels everywhere. None of the “squirrel-proof” feeders worked. So I just gave up.
I have a large bird feeder mounter on a pole with a squirrel baffle. I noticed one squirrel was able to get onto the feeder. I noticed that it would run along the telephone wire that ran above it, then drop from the wire onto the feeder, about a four foot drop.
Just before I read this, I had gone outside to cover the corn we leave for deer. If I don’t, the squirrels (I think it is one, particularly FAT squirrel I almost grabbed by the tail before he waddled off) will eat it all!
We had one that would jump from the ground, do a flip in mid-air and grab the base of the feeder. So, I added a squirrel barrier under the feeder. Still have a rat problem on the Squirrel Solution feeder, rats are too light to close the gates.
My sis has a clear plastic bird feeder that attaches with suction cups to the outside of the living room window, where her boss Lou can watch from his favorite perch in the cat tree. Trouble is, he swats at the window trying to catch the birds & drives them away, so they’ve become a bit gun-shy. This morning a red squirrel came to the feeder & stuffed itself silly, pointedly ignoring Lou’s swats.
there’s a video on youtube by Rockstar Voiceovers of a squirrel jumping multiple times trying to get onto a bird feeder…they eventually succeed, and the voiceover is hilarious!
my stepfather spent a half an hour up a ladder making his bird feeder squirrel proof…when he finished he climbed down got the ladder and turned …and the squirrel was sitting on the bag of bird food munching away watching him the whole time…i say if you’re going to feed one animal, feed them all
I had one that I had to tweak its tail 3 times before it left the bird feeder alone. And all the while the other squirrels were yelling, “Dude! DUDE! She’s coming again!”

Amazing just how smart those little tree rats are.

We put the food out because it attracts entertainment for our indoor cats, they watch through the window
They aren’t picky about what’s out there as long as it’s moving

Why not feed the squirrel along with the birds!

The only thing missing from this comic is my bee-bee gun!

Mix Cayenne pepper in with the bird food. Tree Rats don’t like that and birds don’t taste it ;-) … Lead poison also works ;-)

I used grease on the pole part way up it to the bottom of the feeder. Made for good laughs watching the squirrel hit it and slide down the pole.

Plugger won’t pay extra $$ to squirrel proof the feeder.

Spring loaded feeders do help somewhat.

For many years, we enjoyed an amateur live-action comedy series in our back yards, “Dad vs. The Squirrel.”

I like squirrels and glad to see one at my feeder. What I don’t like are the magpies and pigeons.

My dad used to put up a cob of field corn for them and they usually left the bird seed alone.

Pick your enemies carefully. They should not be smarter than you are in their specialty field. :)

Meh, I just set out separate feeders. Also, some of the squirrel-proof feeders these days actually work.

We have been accidentally breeding gray squirrels for increased intelligence by using squirrel-proof bird feeders.
