Most of these kind of things are at least partly about marketing: How can they (as a person or company) take advantage of this particular thing?

All I know is it would be nice to be able to enjoy it year-round when the mood hits, instead of having it rammed down our throats until we’re sick of it. What boneheads decided you can only sell pumpkin spice in the fall? Ditto peppermint ice cream.

I guess that one never sees a pumpkin in an obvious summer scene.

Cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves and ginger. Nutmeg actually has hallucinogenic properties. This concoction was featured in an episode of Elementary.

Start pumpkins plants from seeds in the spring, by mid autumn, you’ll have full-grown, fully ripened pumpkins.

    All produce is seasonal.

“Pumpkin pie spice is similar to the British and Commonwealth mixed spice. It is generally a blend of ground cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, cloves, and sometimes allspice.” Wikipedia

There is not even any pumpkin in it.

Why pumpkins in the fall? Ever see them in the spring? They’re either tiny seeds and unremarkable or leftovers from the previous fall and thus disgusting.

It goes in pumpkin pie, which is traditionally served at Thanksgiving, and then somebody got the bright idea of marketing it as a flavoring for other things seasonally, and voila, a trend was born.
