A home is a cage and a kind of prison in different ways, and some of us take pride in how our habitats look and are carefully curated to attract the eyes of the passing throngs of visitors to your Zoo.
Echoes of Jack Williamson’s “With Folded Hands” (1947) – a frightening “we’ll do it all for you, including the thinking” dystopia: https://i.4pcdn.org/tg/1467947329951.pdf""To Serve and Obey, and Guard Men from Harm."
Kind of like what’s envisioned us by the anti-publicans: a life free from the truth, one where they impose their values on everyone and control people with fear (like they are already controlling OB/GYN doctors, the ones leaving deep-red states for fear of being imprisoned for doing their jobs).
“If you want total security, go to prison. There you’re fed, clothed, given medical care and so on. The only thing lacking… is freedom.” ~ Dwight D. Eisenhower
Yes, I can see the good of AI when used properly, as an aid to human endeavor. But, when it becomes an end-all, then we are headed down a slippery slope. For instance, I already use a website to plan my Xn services. The site provides good descriptions of the texts, how they relate to one another, and summaries of the global and local perspective. One could just read this as their sermon. But, there are many times that these site prepared summaries are completely wrong and only have a few lines that might be referenced in my sermon. I could see using a chatbot to provide a summary of a text, or a beginning of a message. But, I would be the one doing the preaching. It wouldn’t be preaching. AI could be used to augment our writing endeavors when we decide to maintain control over it.
Marty is a great artist. June 25th is coming up and I wish he would do a Trump as General Custer cartoon. A Richard Mulligan Little Big Man goofy Trump / Custer. He could have a lotta fun with the hair.
Where will people fit in this new developing world? Many low-paying jobs are being lost as I write this as more & more national chains are introducing self-serve registers which make the investors richer. Call your insurance company, your investment firm, the Registry of Motor Vehicles-you get a long labyrinth of choices to choose from, none of which fits your inquiry. Programmed Computers already make decisions about you, for you, and there is little, if any recourse for you. AI would be veryu useful in unmanned, long-duration space missions, but I fear it will be implemented on a commercial scale big time, whether we like it or not.
