I’ve always liked this guys face. Just so intense. Some of Lynn’s best physical comedy.

We previously saw the choir teacher around this time last year when the choir went to the capitol to sing. As to whether choir directors watch themselves in a mirror, the answer is “Yes”. In their university years, most of them have to watch themselves direct as a part of their conducting class.

I tried out for choir in High School. Why didn’t anyone ever tell me that I couldn’t carry a tune in a bucket? Embarrassing…..

Yes, we watch ourselves in the mirror. And also, in the beginning conducting class at my college, some sessions were conducted in the college swimming pool. This was so you could feel where your arms and body were going.

Some kind of mystery here. On Lynn Johnston’s official home web site, today’s comic is in color! ( not that the color is anything to eww and ahh over!) I wonder if there is some kind of contract dispute going on here? “Lynn you want more money? Well we’ll have to take it off the color budget then!”

When I was in a church choir, I carried this specific comic frame in my Bible for several years. It is one of the great classic frames of the comic pages.

The choir director often has to remind them to smile and look like they’re happy and having a joyful time.

I’d say he was trying to direct a different carol from what the group was singing…

As opposed to conductor Fritz Reiner. “Reiner purposely conducted with a small beat to force your attention to it. One day a bass player came with a telescope and asked Reiner “Hey pops, where’s the beat?” “Reiner laughed—he fired him, but he laughed,” said Jacobs.”

This brought back fond memories of choir singing, both in high school and church. Thank you!

I used to look at myself in the mirror. And I did lead the choir. Time marched on. The congregation of 75+ is no more there are only 12 church members remaining.

Kind of like band and orchestra directors, but they carry a stick! You do not want to hear the stick hitting the directors music stand when your playing. He is telling you to STOP!

He looks like he could be the conductor who got so mad at a musician he threw his baton at them; it pierced their eye into their brain, killing them. He was tried for murder, found guilty, sentenced to the electric chair, the switch was thrown, and – nothing happened.

Tried out for choir in third grade with my best friend. She got in and I didn’t. Broke my heart. It still stings after more than 60 years. I never sang aloud in public again, just mouthed the words when necessary

I, too, auditioned for the high school glee club, was asked not to ever try again. Now, as an adult, I sing with the local community choir, fortunately it’s non-audition. We just presented Messiah this past Saturday. I have to say that my singing has improved to the point that I have actually been asked to do solos in my church! The first one was definitely an act of faith.
