Republicans sure liked it when state’s rights started making recreational MJ legal, and they all started profiting from heavy MJ industry investment. What changed?
Trump Disciple Ramirez LIEs about the amount of crime.
Republicans obstruct ANY attempts to increase mental health treatments.
Republicans obstruct all attempts to treat drug addiction and instead demand prison for addicts.
Republicans demand ever increasing wealth inequality. They believe homelessness is caused by bad choices of those who are homeless.
.
This cartoon is yet another example of Republicans’ absolute refusal to address problems and issues. Instead of addressing issues, Republicans LIE about every one of them and weaponize them all.
Because criminalizing a drug that creates less of a problem than alcohol and is responsible for the mass incarceration of minority youth is just dumb. It’s a mistake that should have been corrected long ago.
But of course it would be silly to decriminalize something that was not a crime, and had nobody in prison. Besides, Conservatives prefer to lock up innocent people, they cause less trouble.
Maybe you would have us make alcohol illegal? It is the cause of thousands of wrecks, spousal abuse and other crimes. Prohibition worked out so well the first time.
I’m totally fine with pardoning marijuana offenses and releasing those folks – assuming that the marijuana charges weren’t the last piece remaining in a plea deal that included more serious crimes.
Actually there is a lot of proof that marijuana doesn’t have as many negative impacts as alcohol or tobacco (never tried it myself so I can’t claim personal experience) according to studies.
You’d have thought we’d learned our lesson during Prohibition. Banning alcohol made breaking the law at least semi-respectable, and led to massive, organized crime. We also lost oodles of tax revenue in the process.
Believe it or not, it was the Republican states that led the movement to stem re-incarceration. They forgot the old adage about stop trying to rescue babies in the river and going upstream to see who’s throwing them in
With all the accomplishments Biden has made for WE THE PEOPLE, GOP Is pi$$ed because the last POS didn’t do anything for anyone but for himself and because they didn’t think of it first….
If one took time to consider how nonsensical it is to imprison people who ‘broke the law’ which is now no longer the law in most states, one would be thankful these folks would be pardoned with a chance to participate in the public good.
“Conservatism, then, is not a commitment to limited government and liberty – or a wariness of change, a belief in evolutionary reform, or a politics of virtue. These may be byproducts of conservatism, one or more of its historically specific and ever-changing modes of expression. But they are not it animating purpose. Neither is conservatism a makeshift fusion of catalysts, Christians, and warriors, for that fusion is impelled by a more element force – the opposition to the liberation of men and women from the fetters of their superiors, particularly in the private sphere. Such a view might seem miles away from the libertarian defense of the free market, with its celebration of the atomistic autonomous individual. But it is not. When the libertarian looks out upon society, he does not see isolated individuals; he sees private, often hierarchical groups, where a father governs his family and an owner his employees… the conservative position stems from a genuine conviction that a world thus emancipated will be ugly, brutish, base, and dull. It will lack the excellence of a world where the better man commands the worse… Each in his own way subscribes to this typical statement, from the nineteenth century, of the conservative creed: To obey a real superior… is one of the most important of all virtues – a virtue absolutely essential to the attainment of anything great and lasting.” The Righteous Mind by Corey Robin
Can’t be worse than the republican approach which is to encourage everyone to carry a gun. At least this will save the taxpayer the cost of keeping them in jail and court costs.
Let’s not beat around the bush… If it’s not a regressive repub, then give em life with no chance of parole for simple possession… Whatever it takes to make the US an authoritarian state..
Actually, we need to learn the lesson of prohibition. Cops are spending too much time fighting the drug war. Instead, legalize everything. Let the drug companies produce it. Sell it at cost plus taxes. If the drug lords come up with something popular on the street, legalize and produce that too. History shows that taking the “naughty” factor out of it actually decreases use. Allow sales in bars, pharmacies, so their revenues increase. People gonna do what people gonna do. Give up the “drug war”, reap the tax rewards, cut down on the number of people we are having to feed in jails and put a whole lot of drug dealers out of business, while their profits go to better causes.
One time I might agree with Mike. As a 33 year Probation Officer, I seen first hand the effects of pot use. They do not call it the Gateway Drug for nothing!
Yes, it’s actually a good, if limited (federal prisoners only, not those in prison for state crimes) action. Grouping marijuana with heroin, meth, LSD and fentanyl is just plain stupid. No one ever died from a marijuana overdose (unless they tried to drive or operate heavy machinery).
Crime RatesWhen it comes to what substance will put someone at risk for getting hurt or hurting others, alcohol is considered to cause the most harm.
A study on marijuana use and intimate partner violence found that couples who used marijuana had lower rates of intimate partner violence in the first 9 years of marriage. In fact, men who used marijuana were the least likely to commit an act of intimate partner violence against a spouse.

The fact that marijuana is outlawed, while alcohol is not is just another example of the problems this Government has created for itself!
