Normally, summers are dry here and we don’t have many mosquitoes, but it’s still raining mid-June, so the pests levels will probably be higher.

That’s one of the the issues with living on the East Coast, bugs, lots and lots of bugs. I don’t care if they are called Palmetto Bugs, they are still flying cockroaches!!!

the mosquito can actually go extinct without disturbing any food chains, they are just parasites that have killed more humans than any other cause in the entire history of our species

Bats eat a lot of mosquitos. Maybe Jojo and Sunny should build some bat houses.

The best way to avoid mosquito bites is a combination of a really good mosquito spray and hanging around with a mosquito magnet. I learned this in Maui years ago with my daughter. They really loved her!

Mosquitos provide an important food source in starting bodies of water. They eat bacteria and decaying material in the water but feed larger creatures, such as pollywogs and fish larvae. And they are usually the first such food source in newly formed ponds or springs.

If I walk outside in bug season I will get bitten – I once was bitten a dozen times in the 10 foot walk to the car.

I also am fair skinned and burn easily – so sun lotion always needed and a hat.

Since juggling sun lotion and bug spray is not that easy (always have to remember which one has to go on first) we were looking for an alternative. I found something called a “Bug Band” It looks like the various plastic “cause” bands of a few years ago. Since it fits down to children in size it fits my wrist. There are several similar ones and the one I get comes with a case to keep it in so it lasts longer. I try to buy them in black or dark blue to make it less obvious. (I sort of think that “glow in the dark” defeats the purpose.) It does have a slight order of what it is impregnated with – but not really noticeable.

When we are reenacting I close the band, and hang it on ribbon I put the ribbon around the waist band of my petticoat (skirt) and it hangs inside same. It still does a great job and no one sees this modern item.
