There are too many of them. There needs to be a consolidating service for a flat fee. We have 3 of those she mentioned plus PBS Passport. We got rid of cable and replaced that with YouTubeTV which has the same content – local and cable channels – for about half the price. The “DVR” is in the cloud.

I just subscribed for a year to Funimation, a service for anime shows and movies.

I lived in a south-asian country (not India) and tried to get Netflix, who refused to provide a service. Having tried the legal option, I simply went ahead and downloaded what I wanted.

[The streaming services were supposedly going to cut down on piracy…]

There are so many streaming services though, it just makes it more likely I will pirate now, via a VPN. I simply can’t afford them all!

My internet provider is alway after me to get cable too. I tell them it is too expensive, and I rarely watch TV. I also told them that if they go to a cafeteria plan where I get to pick the channels I want, and ONLY pay for what I watch, and they lower their prices, I might consider it. They look at me like I am speaking in a foreign language…

My library has a selection that is hard to beat and it’s all free. For you screen addicts, they have CDs.

What she needs is 8 TVs, so she can watch them all simulaneously. Great time saver!

We now have the “Balkanization” of the entire entertainment industry. The chances of someone living in your area who enjoys the same entertainment are getting lower. Sharing entertainment experiences online is a poor substitute but the new generation will never know that.

Want it for free? It’s called an antenna. A friend of mine gets his TV that way & he gets channels that aren’t included in the local cable company’s list of channels.

My mother-in-law was staying with us and watched TV continually. I came home from work and she handed me the remote saying “you can watch whatever you’d like.” I told her I’d like a little peace and quiet and turned it off. From the look on her face you’d think I’d just strangled a kitten.

Information overload. Step away from the computer and go outside for a walk. Smeagol turned into Gollum. My precious!

“Mr Green, did you try our free HBO weekend?”

“I DID!! I didn’t get a wink of sleep all weekend watching all the wonderful shows.”

“So will you be signing up to keep receiving it?”

    “Ain’t no way!! I can’t afford it.”

“But sir, it is only $5 per month.”

“Not the money. The lost sleep!!”

(Lieutenant Pamela Mae Snap understands exactly.)

The Simpsons had an episode where Homer got stolen cable that was hilarious. His couch had a brown indentation from where he hadn’t gotten up from it in a week.

The proliferation of these streaming services with exclusive content is actually worse than cable.

If you have enough time that you have to pay for TV, you have more money than sense.
