I’ve heard that the “Luann” fans are one of the most toxic groups at GoComics. A bunch of people piled on top of me because of statement like a bunch of rabid idiots so I now agree with others’ assessment of this fandom. So, no more comments after this. Driving people away from this comic hurts Greg Evans’ bottom line here so you are sucky fans for doing that. Shame on you.

Luann just won that round of “Flinch”. Hardly a movement at all.

Now, that’s a powerful way to get Axel to stop using just a smile and a firm tone of voice. Luann is doing her job by showing great skill in it and it’s really good to see her so able. The fact that Axel had a crush on her isn’t something that would bother her, or at least she’s really capable of not making it visible and staying professional. Axel is a smart guy and he quickly realized it was all in his mind. Now, let’s hope he focuses on his homework.

That was close. But now he won’t cooperate and will probably bad mouth her to the school and tell them she’s a terrible tutor.

To be fair, I’ve worn my sunglasses indoors before. They’re prescription, and I misplaced my regular glasses. I’d normally get by without them, but I had to attend a training seminar. I probably looked like a pretentious d*ck, but at least I could see the demonstrations clearly.

I sure HOPE Luann was just being diplomatic and wasn’t actually asking Axel what he was doing because she honestly didn’t know.

But the fact that she didn’t follow it up with a kind but stern lecture about what’s appropriate behavior and what isn’t sort of tells me that she genuinely didn’t understand what he was doing.

Axel better have a report to show Luann or it will get more awkward.

Young boys having crushes on older women used to be a common motif in pop culture, before legal concerns pervaded all aspects of daily living. It was painful and awkward, but not creepy or disturbing because we knew it would end with some variation of “You’re just a kid.” And it was relatable, though IRL most of us (even at 13) had the good sense to know it could never be.

Good job, Luann. Let him leave the shades on until the tears pass.

Maybe I am a romantic at heart, but this seems to be a bit cruel to me, unless she really didn’t know what he was doing. She could have let him down a little easier. He is young and the look of disappointment on his face brought tears to my eyes. Yes, I am the mother of a son, and yes I know the situation is a dangerous one now days, but man or woman, you always remember your first crush/love. Someone needs to explain this situation to Axel so he can learn. ‘Tis better to have loved and lost than not to have loved at all”. Did I say I was a hopeless romantic?

I originally thought Luann was still being clueless about Axel thinking she was attracted to him, and, had brushed him off accidentally. But when she tells him to take of his sunglasses, and, show her his essay, it looks like she’s channeling her teachers.

And now he’s sulking LOL! Luann did a good job, she let him know he was crossing the line without making it impossible for him to recover.

Okay, but did Luann really shoot Axel down, though? With her body language and reaction to him, it seems hard to tell; like she’s totally oblivious to the fact that he was clearly trying to hit on her . . . like, who else would just random say in a conversation, “You smell good”?

Essay? Who said anything about an essay?

And the old Axel is back.

Luann dismisses Axel’s comment about the lack of light by telling him to take off his sunglasses. Then moves on to the homework. Good for her!

They do smell good … even when they don’t.

I, on the other hand, just make old billy goats jealous that their odor is weaker. (They are competitive that way. Losers!!!)
