I have no idea what M Benson is aiming to say here. Except that he seems to be making fun of some of the anti-marijuana stuff from the past.

My own take: I don’t toke, because I don’t like the effect. But if you get a bunch of wild and crazy guys drunk, they get into a fight, but if you get them doped up, they sit around going ‘Oh wow, man’ and succumbing to the blind munchies. So WHICH is the dangerous drug?

I wasn’t much into marijuana back in the day. After smoking, I just wanted to eat a turkey and go to sleep. The last time I smoked it was in 1987. Then last year during shutdown I thought I would give it a try, since I didn’t have to worry about random drug tests at work. Let me say, it didn’t turn out very well.

I don’t understand the bruhaha over Marajuana. It’s one of the oldest painkillers known to man and in some cases can work better and cost less than anything Big Pharma can offer.

You forgot the really important part about Our Precious White Women socializing with Filipino and Negro Jazz Musicians. And shudder those people shudder thinking they’re as good as a White Man because that was a huge part of the Reefer Madness propaganda and the reason Nixon had is War on Drugs.

I like the idea of legal medical marijuana. With my oncological prognosis a bowl AND a beer really help with late night anxiety and sleeplessness. But of course ohio screws up the process. Go to a web page and the first question is how will you pay the doctor? Not do you qualify but how to pay. Most docs want $200 – 250. Then you teleconference with doc and they send you electronic ok to buy.So ohio setup a money maker for docs to sit at a desk and get $250 a call.Cheaper to go to some college bar around here I’d think. On a side note ..Ohio also just cut taxes for the wealthiest by removing the top bracket. Guess where most of the QOP state legislatures tax brackets are. Ohio seems lost to the QOP.

Once upon a time, a minor embarrassment.

The Scene: Dusk, candlelight. A gourmet-level home made meal on a Southern veranda under broadly-spreading Live Oaks. Scent of honeysuckle on cool air blown up from the creek. Fireflies.

    Two of us.

She: Where are the crescent rolls? [Asked while opening the warming cloth over the bread basket.]

Me: I guess we ate them.

    She: I only ate one.

    Me: How many were there?

    She: Twelve.

You KNOW that if large Corporations actually controlled Pot sales and distribution like they do for Alcohol and Tobacco, the Qpublicans would ALL be in favor of Legalization, since it would just increase the amount of Bribes…er… “Campaign Contributions” they would be collecting.

I would be very happy if the State of NC could collect (lawfully) 6.75% sales tax on all weed sales at the various counties’ farmers markets. And no, I probably wouldn’t buy any.

Basically we’ve got one guy to blame for the demonization of marijuana in America: Harry Anslinger, US Commissioner of Narcotics, 1930-1962. Here are some of his oh-so-objective observations about it:

‘Marihuana leads to pacifism and Communist brainwashing.’

‘Reefer makes darkies think they’re as good as white men.’

‘You smoke a joint and you’re likely to kill your brother.’

‘Marijuana is the most violence-causing drug in the history of mankind.’

‘The primary reason to outlaw marijuana is its effect on the degenerate races.’

‘Marijuana is an addictive drug which produces in its users insanity, criminality, and death.’

‘There are 100,000 total marijuana smokers in the US, and most are Negroes, Hispanics, Filipinos, and entertainers. Their Satanic music, jazz and swing, result from marijuana usage. This marijuana causes white women to seek sexual relations with Negroes, entertainers, and any others.’

I was disappointed to find that, in the real world, marijuana did not lead to the fun depicted in films like “Reefer Madness” – instead, all it led to was a bunch of people getting lazy and sleepy and hungry. I quit it when I realized that it was causing me to waste a lot of time and money that I couldn’t afford to waste. My biggest concern with legal recreational “weed” is how it can cause people to fail to live up to their potentials. Alcohol can do the same thing, although it is more likely to make people aggressive than to mellow them out.

Odd how Mr. Benson draws a caricature of the late Marty Feldman (“Igor” from “Young Frankenstein”); he smoked approximately 5 packs of cigarettes a day and died prematurely from a heart attack.

Unless and until the States legalizing pot stop taxing the crap out of it the cartels will continue to own the market, with all of the terror and violence involved.

In most legal States it is still cheaper to buy pot on the street than in the licensed shops. Regulating and taxing is just fine but the politicians seem to think it is a golden stream of cash for their use. The idea here is to get a handle on the crime related to distribution, not to fill the massive holes in local budgets.

“Today, the US Coast Guard intercepted a boat carrying 2000 pounds of pot. The entire 1800 pounds was turned over to local authorities, who had to use trucks to haul all 1600 pounds to a secure site, where the 1400 pounds will be stored before burning. Officials estimate that it will take several hours for the entire 1000 pounds to be burned. The local workers entrusted with burning the 500 pounds will be observed closely by officials to make sure the entire 250 pounds is destroyed properly!

“Police estimate the street value of the 125 pounds at $3.7 million.”
