Scaled down the menu, no doubt. The old menu was too elaborate, too timely to prepare, priced high, with little profit margin.

    How dreadful of him!!

Oh well, when you love someone, you have to be willing to risk the wrath.

No child is truly independent until they can graciously accept or reject suggestions from their parents.

Like a good pitch in baseball, giving advice is all in the delivery. You may have excellent advice but if you TELL someone what to do and how to do it with a know-it-all attitude, they will resent and ignore it. A better approach would be to take the time and engage in a two way conversation, teasing out the problem and allowing for mutual input on possible solutions. Self respect is at risk on both sides - especially in a parent child relationship.

I know I’m in the minority, but I’ve never really liked Mary Lou.

An experienced restauranteur gave advice that worked. At least it was Gus and not Gordon Ramsey.

I wish I could put out a garden like that. I didn’t even try this year. Thought I’d have better luck at my local Farmer’s Market.

Sometimes I use a modification of dialectic, where I ask questions to the person require help and see if I can steer them to the answer.

Not quite getting it. They’re a little old to be resenting parental advice. At least my kids outgrew that. and if they dislike the diner being crazy busy, what the hell are they doing it for? Make hay while the sun shines.

I fully understand, Gene. Our middle one had a dog that bit my dog 3 times – enough to leave scars on her snout – and me once. When the D-I-L got preggers with their first, we told them they had to get rid of that dog; they insisted it would never attack a child.

About 9 months into the little guy’s life, sure enough, the damn dog chomped down on his head (drew blood, but fortunately just minor wounds; not even scars).

They were so pissed at us for being right……….

(They gave the dog to her folks; it bit one of his dogs & he shot it.)
