Not gonna happen until we undo what Re*gan did to the Fairness Doctrine. One of my grandfather’s favourite curses was “Reagandiddit.”

Of course, in Al’s universe, any media that doesn’t have a legal team that tells people that “no reasonable person watches them for news” can’t be considered unbiased. Goodwyn’s Law™. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W8qcccZy03s

You can start by not turning on Fox, OAN, Newsmax, Breitbart and InfoWars. Also, don’t read Washington Examiner or National Review. And don’t print Goodwyn, Lester, Bok, Ramirez and some of the others here on Go Comics.

Of course any media that disagrees with what you wish was true seems “biased”. And of course that applies for every single point of view. It isn’t true, though everybody and everything has some built in bias. There are people who study media bias, and report on it. Somewhat unsurprisingly, there are more sources that show bias than not… but lots of them are “truthy” even if many of them select what stories to push or emphasize some aspect  of the truth so as to present them in a way that resonates for their bias.

Here is a good resource. https://mediabiasfactcheck.com/

—) I suppose we will soon see videos of people popping cicadas whole into their mouths, as supposedly delicious snacks. Don’t do that, yourself! Who knows what parasites dwell within?

I have seen field crickets — that people also sometimes thoughtlessly consume as a joke — partially crushed on the sidewalk, a long, parasitic worm living in their gut thus revealed, uncoiling itself and squirming to escape and find another host.

This is a metaphor for all kinds of things that unwary people gobble down, contaminated food as well as “alternative facts.” Check out beforehand what you consume! You don’t want a belly full of worms OR a mind full of squirmy false ideas.

There’s plenty of unbiased media. People just don’t like what it says because it disagrees with what they “feel” is correct.

Places like FoxNews are looking to make money off this. They gain viewership by telling people what they want to hear. The gain in viewers drives ad dollars. People are being duped and advertisers are paying for it. Even FoxNews views itself more as an entertainment organization rather than a bone fide news group.

Don’t forget Sinclair radio. Newspapers have always been biased-good example was the Hearst chain which was rabidly republican and often the only source of news for many.

We HAD “unbiased” media, until Reagan overturned the Fairness Doctrine.

Maybe Mr. Goodwyn would like its return? /s

The Fairness Doctrine had only applied to broadcast media. The ones that were sent out over the air. It was a FCC rule. It had never applied to cable channels like Fox. That was the real problem. Not to my liking, but that is the reality.

Russian propaganda spouting Fox ‘news’ is the biggest liar in the country.

How many tens of thousands did they kill with their lies about covid?

I would say that Goodwyn’s cartoons typically aren’t lies, they simply lack any real content. Today’s cartoon is an example. He doesn’t give an example of bias in the media. There’s nothing to correct, because nothing really has been said.

And the image conflicts with what I assume he means. His unbiased media looks like something from a horror movie.

When is a Fox a Cicada?

I don’t know but certainly not when the Cicada represents Unbiased Media in an Al G comic.

I agree with Al. Fox, oan, newsmax, so many right wing extremist propaganda outlets.

Fox News hosts Tucker Carlson, Sean Hannity almost make me pine for the era of Glenn Beck and Bill O’Reilly | COMMENTARYhttps://www.baltimoresun.com/opinion/columnists/zurawik/bs-ed-zontv-fox-news-disgrace-20200715-ykoz2jvegnhu3jfhk5u4xrapw4-story.html

Michele Bachmann goes berserk on John Boehner for calling Fox News viewers ‘lunatics’

Bachmann, a far right religious extremist who retired from Congress amid ethics investigations told Fox News viewers, “for people like us, we’re considered the lunatics. I mean, think of how lacking in self awareness do you have to be to call Fox viewers ‘lunatics’ because that’s really what they’re doing.”

That is in fact what they’re doing. Or, to be more specific, that is what her fellow Republican John Boehner did.

Here’s why you get a lot of reader blowback on your political cartoons: your political cartoons present the Trumpublican Party line from Fox News and similar limited-perspective news sources. Many people who read your cartoons on GoComics also read a large number of newsfeeds and often news magazines as well, such as (but not limited to) CNN, MSNBC, MSNews, The Guardian, USA Today, The New York Times, the New York Post, the Wall Street Journal, ABC, Associated Press, CNET, Newsweek, The Hill, Today, AND Fox News. When they do this, they come see a consensus regarding the facts of a situation. They also read books and have considerable education, acquired from educational institutions and/or self-study, as well as considerable life experience. Reading Fox News and their ilk and comparing what is being said to the wider range of news sources, here’s what we see Fox et al. doing as a matter of standard operating procedure: 1. Obscuring or omitting facts (reported in the larger field of news sources) which do not support the party line. 2. Presenting actions or situations that actually occurred out of chronological order, to support the party line. 3. Exaggerating or misrepresenting situations that occurred in order to support the party line. 4. Supporting the use of deceptive language to label legislation, like the GA legislature claiming that the voter suppression bill they just passed is designed to insure elections are fair and honest, when in fact if you read it it’s clear that it is designed to empower the legislature to restrict voting by people likely to vote Democratic and provide the Republican legislature the tools to overturn election results it doesn’t like. It’s kind of like China calling itself the People’s Republic of China. It ain’t a Republic and all the Chinese know it, but what can they do? Best we speak up while we can.Continued…

    5. If all else fails, just make something up that never happened and hope no one calls you on it. Trumpublican true believers usually don’t call out these misrepresentations because they only read the party line news and don’t realize what’s really going on – or they fully support such reporting. So don’t be surprised if you get pushback. You’re welcome to return to the light and would be greeted with glad cries.

It’s possible that unbiased media has been available, but you’re so biased you don’t recognize it when you see it.
