Twas the night before the colonoscopy and Nelson was told to stay at his mother’s house that night. He wasn’t told why until he asked grampa to tell him a story.
Yow. The colonoscopy itself was nothing. Literally: I was in a state of induced memory loss during the procedure. But in those days, the prep for it was beyond excruciating. The most recent one, though, was (by comparison) downright benign. Less than 24 hours, only two liters of awful stuff to drink and no agonizingly gut-wrenching suppository. I’m not looking forward to next year’s… but I’m not fearing it like I used to would.
They are no picnic for sure . And I’m happy that the precious Roscoe is not in today’s cartoon . He should never be in something like todays comic. All though , if he was it would have made this something very special for some of us , me especially . : )
Well, I knew it didn’t take much to trigger the when I had my . . . whatever surgical procedure, but this was really fast and about as funny as cancer.
Had a colonoscopy in January. Unlike ten years previously, I didn’t have to drink two gallons of something that was mucus-textured on the day before the procedure. Now, it’s down to 24 oz. of a liquid laxative, followed by 8 – 10 glasses of water. Much more humane.
Once when I had a colonoscopy, the doctor came in and said, “you don’t look too happy but don’t worry you will be in a minute”. He was right because that propofol they pump into you is some really some good sh*t.
What I do know about my colonoscopy is all second hand information. Once they knocked me out I only recall bits and pieces of afterwards. I had to call my brother, who had been my chaperone, to find out what happened between the procedure, and when finally I completely woke up at home that evening. A little while after that the nurse called to check on how I was doing. While I was under their after care, both brother and nurse said I had seemed alert and coherent. Don’t ask me, I don’t remember.

No recollection of my grandfather me telling me bedtimes stories about his health issues.

I once began to wake up in the middle of the procedure. They had to increase the sedation. That was dreadful.

I know that story, and it’s not that scary

I would imagine Earl’s “telling” to be more gross than scary.

Yikes! Earl did that on purpose so he wouldn’t have to do the story telling anymore.

What is 24 hours of prep compared to the possibility of cancer. Runs in my family. Fortunately, caught early each time. Worth the taste.

After, seeing what my parents have to go through for one. Yes!! That is a scary story.

I wonder how many young children who just read this comic are now asking their parents what a colonoscopy is?
