For those too young to remember, Vegas tried to promote itself as family destination in the 1990’s. They quickly learned people don’t come to Vegas to do family things. That’s when “What Happens in Vegas, Stays in Vegas” promos started.

I loved flying into Vegas on a long weekend-my landing/parking fees were comped, I got a free hotel room and all I had to pay for was food and the gas to fly home

Way back in college I dated a musician who enjoyed the occasional Las Vegas gigs. He didn’t gamble, and buffets were free, or almost free, so he had a good time.

All this was even before Cirque moved in…as well as the rides atop the Stratosphere.

It’s funny how living in the present pushes us into a future that denies us the past we are trying to discover.

I lived in Vegas for over a year when I was a kid, and there were only a handful of things to look forward to- going to Circus Circus where they had a carnival-type midway; eating at the restaurant atop the Landmark Hotel; and going camping at Lake Mead/seeing Hoover Dam.

No worries, Duke! The gambling is EVERYWHERE! McCarran & slots in the big box hardware stores, what more could you ask for? BTW, 190 proof Everclear is legal in NV.

Duke has ALWAYS been a conservative Republican. A self-proclaimed racist, he previously worked for Oliver North, Jesse Ventura and Trump himself.

In the middle ‘90s I went to a trade show in Las Vegas. HR booked me a room at Circus Circus because it was an easy walk to the Convention Center. I’d never been to Vegas. I learned that I never wanted to go back. Human creativity in the area of sleaze is boundless.

So…Duke is disappointed that Earl’s thoughts don’t immediately turn to money and sex but instead to “lots of cool stuff”? Is that it?

Ask him again in a few years. Say, in the middle of his teenage years.

Right now he’s more interested in buffets than in fleshpots!
