Former president T**** WAS the sitting president when he was impeached for the second time; there is nothing in Speaker Pelosi’s action that sets precedent for impeaching an elected official after leaving office.

There IS however, precedent for holding the impeachment trial in the Senate after the official has left office. It’s been done more than once in the past.

Former president Trump committed sedition and treason while trying to overturn a legal election and he incited violence resulting in the deaths of several people. If Presidents Carter, Bush, Obama, et. al. had committed such heinous acts while still in office but a Democratic Congress refused to act as the GQP Senate refused for Trump’s crimes, there would be grounds.

New Senate Majority Leader Schumer convened the senate to impeachment trial as per our constitution, took debate, took motions, held the vote on the motions, and the Senate, in a bi-partisan vote, ruled the trial constitutional.
