Former president T**** WAS the sitting president when he was impeached for the second time; there is nothing in Speaker Pelosi’s action that sets precedent for impeaching an elected official after leaving office.
There IS however, precedent for holding the impeachment trial in the Senate after the official has left office. It’s been done more than once in the past.
