Our Cat does that, his dinner time is 4:00 but about 2:30 or so he starts with the meowing, running all over the house, playing like Lassie, wanting us to follow him, and when he finally get fed at 4 he takes a bite or 2 and walks off like he is not interested.
As the above comment, our dogs usually ate at 4, 4:30 whenever I’d get home from work. On my days off, one of them started working it earlier & earlier. Used to be 3:45, then 3:30 – you get the drift. We swore he could actually tell time. But he would always eat til it was gone, Chester loved his food!
One of the nice things about being retired is that life gets simple: Eat when you’re hungry, sleep when you’re tired, say “NO” when you don’t want to do something.

When it comes to food, you can almost hear the dog thinking about how to work the system.

Pretty sure one of my dogs knows the sound of the theme song from the 5:30 news and reminds me it’s time for dinner.

Beagles are pros. I am better. I set my Echo to announce dinner time, so she waits for the dinner announcement.

Had a German Shepard who during his last three years would stare at you making his eyes look larger. Yes, he knew what he was doing.
