Mr. Ramirez, I agree that illegal immigration is something that needs to be dealt with. I would argue that neither the Democrats nor Trump seem to have the correct answers. But if you think this is the biggest issue facing this nation on this day you are completely deluded.

The Biden administration (remember, this is not about an ego – you have to reset your thinking after four years of a narcissistic thug as the president) is trying to find a humane way to reduce the number of long-term undocumented residents – which is the majority of undocumented.

Oh, the big rise in undocumented? That happened during George W. Bush.

The fact of the matter is, we need immigration. The US birthrate is currently 1.71. For population stability, it needs to be 2.1:

This means that eventually, we won’t have enough young workers to support our retired population (both in terms of social security payments and the actual work that needs to be done to get us the things we want and need). We can solve this problem cheaply and easily by having sensible legal immigration policy informed by data.

Immigration has powered this country for centuries, and it’s a huge mistake to throw it away because of our xenophobic inclinations.

Masses of illegal immigrants will do… what, exactly? If they aren’t threatened by deportation, that can’t depress wages past the minimum wage. They don’t commit crime.

They’re hard workers, and immigrants in general are the core identity of America. Other countries have their own ethnicity and cultures, and we are no longer unique in being a democracy. However, unlike every other country, we are a nation of immigrants. We let in the lowest and most downtrodden of the world, and give them the chance to fulfill their dreams, and advance humanity forward in every sphere. The vast, vast majority of have immigrant lineage. I’m only third generation, my grandparents having fled Norway at the end of the 18th century. A sensible immigration policy will greatly strengthen America, not weaken or threaten it.
