…and so it was; the three little eggs never went on to become baby chicks. They became part of a large coconut creme pie that the whole family enjoyed. The End.
For many years I participated in a program recording readings of newspaper articles for blind people that would be played over the radio. The section of the newspaper assigned to me was the Food section and it was mostly recipes, so that’s what I read. I’m told the station received positive feedback. I hope they did.
While reading and excellent novel, I was very confused by the last 3 chapters until I realized the author had placed 3 of his short stories at the end of the book! Science fiction will make it plausible, for awhile.
To me, some recipes are almost works of fiction. I never met a recipe I followed exactly…. I like to “experiment”….. much to the chagrin of my wife. :)
I always loved Rita Rudner’s remarks about recipe books. She reads them like science fiction: when she gets to the end, she closes the book, then says to herself "Well, that’s never going to happen.

TBF modern recipe sites need a little page and a half discussion about finding the recipe in Tuscany before they get to the ingredients.

Aren’t the directions on the box? Why is a book necessary?

It’s not a story book. It’s a stiry book. All of the recipes are quite stirring.

I always follow recipes to the letter—once! After that it’s perversions on a theme.
