It’s “our” own damn fault for allowing all those GOPists to get into control of things. Please join me in November… assuming the country hasn’t burned down, flooded or been carried off by tornadoes… in voting for some very much better candidates. ALL the way down the ballot.
Our society is plagued by disestablishment (conspiratorial?) religious political beliefs that are attempting to turn established religions and democracy upside down. The merger of the two is particularly dangerous as our nation was founded to separate church and state — unlike England at the time — and to allow equal opportunities/justice for all with an unfortunate concession to slave owners that was eventually repaired and written into our Constitution, yet we are still plagued by those who will not acknowledge reality but cling to notions of supremacy by birth over merit and grace over good works while selectively picking/choosing the portions, of religious creeds. and our Constitution, that suit their fancies. As we are witnessing, both religions and democracy can be corrupted to serve selfish needs and reality itself ignored to nurture failing/flailing ideologies. We must abolish the false notions and work together to save the only accessible plant that supports life as we know it.
We human beings and our structures are, relatively, mere biofilms on the Earth’s surface; microbial mats with pretensions of eternal grandeur… A noosphere, as some philosophers would claim — gone wrong… The thin coating of paint on the top of life’s flagpole, as Samuel Clemens wrote. Nothing we do cannot be absorbed by Earth’s defense mechanisms — loss of habitat and Extinction — and redirected to other uses.
“On the Vanity Of Earthly Greatness” — Arthur Guiterman:
We have met the enemy and he is us. The climate crisis will not go away in our lifetimes. I can hope my children’s generation will start to solve it as they’ll have no choice.
Sometimes I think we should just stop saying the Pledge. Most people don’t believe in “liberty and justice for all”. They only want it for the people they like.
Republicans don’t believe in covid or global warming, or science. Vote every one of the deniers of reality out of office. You can not run a government on lies.
My eldest is about 40 miles from one of the many fires burning in Washington State, the one that wiped out an entire town. My niece is doing a fellowship at UC Davis, also within miles of one of the many fires burning in California. Both brilliant millennials are environmental scientists working to save endangered species….. I hope their work is not too late. As it is, SwampyDon and his cronies have undone much of the good work past administrations have done!
The GOP has not yet positioned themselves for the immense power struggle which will occur in the post-Trump era. The party will be splintered and ineffective for years. Pro-Trump is not a valid political platform.
It would be nice to give up the idea that the Dems’ and Repub’s are really the left and right butt cheeks of corporate Ameika. At least that is what one Guy told me.

They call it “Climate Change” because “Global Warming” (which it is) sound too alarmist. “Don’t want to start a panic.”

Of mastodons, are billiard balls.

Its time on Earth will fade away.

The books, the music, artworks — all
Will be as leaves that drop in Fall.

Forgotten be the countless lives
That loved as husbands and as wives.
.
Of human works once thought fantastic,
Will last mere tiny bits of plastic.

It’s much cheaper to pay off a politician than to reduce emissions, and we have some very cheap politicians.

Why doesn’t he just fix it now? Asking for a friend.
