It seems as though that Bernice has just proven that like Amnesia, Ingratitude has reached “Pandemic Proportions” within the VAST Luanniverse.

Bernice? Have YOU so soon forgotten that just a couple of months ago, it was YOU that went Blubbering to Luann about how Rotten YOUR day was? And if it hadn’t been for Luann, (And Luann’s mom) YOU would now be staying with strangers at the Ronald McDonald House?

Bernice SHOULD recognize that Luann is sharing her home, her parents, her dog AND her guy-pal with her. And she’s trying to show Bern a tad bit of “family love.” Something that Ms. Halper’s own family seems to have forgotten how to do. At the very least, Bernice could pretend she’s interested in how her Best Friend Luann’s day went.

Gee-Bus. You guys still want to hook Jack up with Bernice?? Sorry, but Jack deserves better. ;)

Bernice loves being around Luann, she just doesn’t like her seemingly constant complaining.

I wonder if Luann had a tough day trying to train Puddle again?

Bernice’s comments are placing in context a lot of the “snark” that has gone on in all those Sunday strips. Come to think of it, it even kind of explains the dog park part of the arc.

As in, Luann just assumes…

Luann assumes that whatever she thinks is fun is fun for everyone else. The subtle hint, Bernice brought a book. And again, her captive audience, Puddles: Fetching a ball might be fun for Luann, but not the dog!

It’s starting to fall into place now.

It’s time for Luann to get out into the world and expand her comfort zone.

All this debate over who’s rude and who’s selfish. Doesn’t anyone want to hear about Luann’s day?

I mistakenly thought the door was closed on Monday, but based on the position of the knob, it’s been open all along. So really, Luann has no reason to think she shouldn’t come in, especially since Bernice hasn’t whined anything to her about “boundaries” so far. And that fish, thanks to the love crystal, must be frantic for a partner. Run, don’t walk, to a pet store!

Is it my imagination or is the fish swimming upside down? Does that mean that Dez did actually kill the fish with that crystal?

So which crystal is working right now that attracted Luann? Surely not peace… is Bernann about to happen?

ambience crystals are like smoking cigarettes. Sure they will kill you, but not immediately ot reliably. The Peace crystall will repell Luann…eventually but not today, not tomorrow and maybe not next week.

Bernice doesn’t understand, you have to throw the peace rock for it to work.

Which rock is that, love or peace? And will the rock in the aquarium make the fish peaceful or will it make it fall in love with berniece?

Dez talks Counseling better than does Bern. Setting boundaries is essential for all readers newly inhabiting a dorm or campus house.

Bernice should realize that the real situation here is that she and Luann have “known each other so long” that there is a comfort and acceptance level to the relationship (at least on Luann’s side) that is common with people who have been together a long time. I don’t see anything unusual with someone coming home with complaints and going directly to their best friend, husband, wife or significant other to vent.

Of all people, Dez doesn’t have much room to advise about boundaries. She’s the New Age Irma!

Go back and reread her intro to the strip. Bernice had been the lone occupant of the dorm room six months (real time) before Dez showed up. Then this:

Hey-what are friends/roommates for? Bernice would not be happy if you hung her with a New rope. Luann needs to ‘not invite’ Bernice into her life for a while.

Will the peace stone calm her little ms drama queen friend down? Notice while Luann is a major character in this arc, and now Dez in terms of college friend, the center character is Bernice. We love our friends no matter what though (usually) plus the family is one of love and stability. So how connecting characters, Luann, and Jack, to what the love and peace stones represent react with Bernice? I think at least one more week. I like it,

Luann just want to share her day with Bernice like she has done for years. But now Bernice wants more space for herself. Luann has to understand that and I’m sure she can. Maybe don’t right now. But she can learn.

Reminds me of her attitude in the park. Barely a hello to Jack before she launched into dog fetching. Here she didn’t even acknowledge Dez. Door open or not, a nice “hello” would have been, well, nice. Not sure who needs the “peace” crystal more, Bernice or Luann. Seems Dez was right on with her “gifts”. ;-)

They should really focus on the whole fish swimming upside down thing. That’s not a good sign.

Why is Monstro upside down?

a few thoughts here: 1. Dez and Bern are former roomies and as different as they are, they were very compatible as living mates. 2. Dez visiting Bern in her new arrangement shows what a caring prson Dez is and that these two kept in touch. 3. Dez reads Bern like a book. Bern doesn’t even have to say what she is thinking for Dez to know. 4. Being long time friends (i.e. Bern & Luann) and living together in a compatible way are two different things.

I love the way he draws that dog. It’s so—dog.

What izzit about this strip that elicits sooooooo many responses? or Why Is This Strip Different From All Other Strips? Help me out on this one, spacehoppers !

Berenice is by nature more reserved than Luann; that’s a personality trait, not a judgement call. And Berenice did have her own room in the dorms, so she’s used to some space.

No, Dez; not “boundaries.” Comity (and a little more comedy wouldn’t hurt, either.)
