My comment is beside the cartoon’s emphasis on Dr. Fauci. However, “knee deep in the first term” brings to mind the Pete Seeger song “Waist Deep in the Big Muddy.” It was performed by Seeger in several venues, leading up to its performance (to great controversy) on “The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour” in early 1968. That show was very popular among young people in America, and I watched it at the time.
The song story line refers to a supposed incident in Louisiana where an army platoon followed the lead of a captain who stubbornly refused to put off crossing an ever deepening river, and he himself drowned as a result. The reference to the captain as “the big fool” was taken as reference to Lyndon Johnson in his perceived mishandling of the Vietnam War.
Trump refers to himself as a “wartime president.” Like Vietnam — even worse,—Trump’s handling of the pandemic is tearing the country apart. He has churned up the mud of anti-science, racism, and misguided patriotism, and the country is near it drowning as a result. Certainly more Americans by far have died due in large part, many believe, to his foolish leadership.

Much as I enjoy one sane voice amongst the BS factory in the White House, I think Fauci might best serve the public by resigning. After yesterday’s fecal festival, insisting that schools open in the fall is nothing less than homicidal.
