I’m going to be a bit Machiavellian on this one. In both times of peace, and times of overt war, nations of all color and status perform acts of espionage and sabotage, tempting the fates of the Eleventh Commandment. SARS, Novichok, Ueghurs, Tamil Tigers, Maduro – I could go on at length, full of examples.

An old definition: “Diplomacy is to do and say, the nastiest thing in the nicest way.”

When the Soviets invaded Afghanistan, I’m pretty sure War Crimes were committed.

When Saddam invaded Kuwait, War Crimes were committed.

When the Allies fire-bombed Dresden, War Crimes were committed.

We in the U.S. would be arrogant to think our activities of counter-terrorism, over more than a decade, came with no War Crimes strings attached.

Odd as it may sound, my expectation (and it definitely could be WRONG) is that the SCOTUS will dodge this by simply not reviewing the lower court (Federal Appellate) cases. If the lower courts kill the state bans, I think that they will stick.

I realize that we do not have Anthony Kennedy around, as in the case of Marriage Equality, but I would expect that voter backlash against nullifying R.v.W. would slaughter the GOP politically.

That method hasn’t worked too well for Israel. That nation lives in a continual state of war, with extensions constantly threatened. It also didn’t work too well for Egypt, prior to the deposal of Mubarrak.

Still agree here, too. The Irani, in spite of the upheaval of the last 7 decades, are a highly intelligent and self-disciplined people.

I was a college freshman in 1979, before the Shah fell. Our univ had several reciprocal students, meaning that some Iranian oil exec would furnish both one American full-ride scholarship, and one for an honors student from Iran. They formed a fairly tight-knit community, and one of the rituals among the males was a morning run around the football stadium. It was the same route enforced by the ROTC students. BUT…. the Iranians would arrive at the start of the morning run 15 minutes BEFORE the arrival of the ROTC trainees, pause and wait, and then wait 15 minutes after ROTC started out before running the same route. In this way, the Iranian students demonstrated daily as much discipline as the military students, but without stepping on their pride…

Although the odds seem a bit low right now, I think it would be a hilarious scenario if the Senate went to a slight Dem control in 2020. Even if it would still not guarantee an impeachment, the very act of ignoring Congressional subpoena would come back to bite his %^@!

The RedPugs have several Senate seats to defend in 2020, including Glitch McConnell, and Trump has left the largest trail of breadcrumbs imaginable by a sitting Prez. Mueller was about Election involvement by the Russians, not Presidential financial forensics (although a few convictions resulted along related lines). Hit DJ in the only place he ever really feels it: in his pocketbook…..
