I think Betty is being a jerk.

Unfortunately, they can also be used by jerks.

I had to call out a guy today at the hospital where my father’s in for his prostatectomy. He had a motorcycle helmet pushed back above his brow, mask pulled down and talking on a phone held in one hand. The other, he was washing at the sink added outside the portico. Everyone is supposed to wash hands before going up the steps.

I gave him a stern talking to! And my angry eyes are not the kind you argue with!

Just be careful not to push his CRAZY button. Getting assaulted is no joke.

Sorry…. but NO.

The “righteousness” of what Betty did could be debated, I suppose…

some here would call it just retribution.

Others, like me, believe that everyone fighting rudeness with greater rudeness merely adds to the sad, ongoing disintegration of manners and society.

Don’t get me wrong… I would say… and actually have said … something, like “please keep your distance.”

Possibly… even probably… ineffective, but it’s my job to model decency…. not to police people or get “even” …

or to escalate every conflict in my life.

But whether or not you support her intention, her action…

all alone, using loud noises that make some people severely agitated…

Mocking and provoking an obviously bad-tempered person at close range…

someone who easily might have the strength to overcome her physically,

and who could well be armed and/or crazy…

Whoa… THAT seems incredibly stupid and dangerous.

If she ended up in the hospital, she’d be telling the police, and anyone who would listen, that she was “attacked” or “assaulted.”

And she’d take NO responsibility for the reason.

After all… he had already committed the heinous crime of brushing past her on the sidewalk.

Yes, he’d be in the wrong… assault is correctly a crime…

But please… let’s not all act as though provocation to assault has become admirable.

Betty is a jerk. She is part of these people who become bullies when they believe they are in their right. The problem being that sometimes they are quite objectively right, but often being “right” means believing they represent a righteous cause… or belief… you know where it leads.

I think I saw Betty in that video of the mob chasing the maskless woman out of the grocery store.

Well, he can probably pick up some teargas on the cheap.

Authors what are you thinking? This story line is going to cause way more problems if anyone mimics it.

betty is sure a such self righteous jerk. she seems to be taking such glee with her actions.

Passing someone is fine. There isn’t enough time for anything to happen. True, this is a comic, but I know I’m not laughing. It would be different if he stopped to talk to her, but all the poor man was doing was walking faster than she was and she was hogging the sidewalk. She’s the rude one. I like the comic but if this keeps up, I’ll have to unfollow for a while.

Betty is in Alberta Canada where the health department recommends and encourages the use of a mask when social distancing is not possible, but it is not enforcing the use. Since the guy is allowed to go without a mask, she is being a jerk.

Betty is Betty. She’s not a Karen.

Betty is growing increasingly unlikeable, in recent years. I’m sure Bub must be noticing. Are they working towards a divorce storyline?
