My school in the fifth grade had a evening class. the father’s with their sons and mother with their daughters. it was meant to stimulate a dialogue as the class was pretty generic. btw this was in the 60s.

when I got out of the military working and going to college, would buy a 24 pack of ramen noodles, a dozen eggs, a couple cans of spam / rotisserie chicken, a few bags of frozen veggies and a bag of apples/pears. that was pretty much a week worth of breakfast and dinners. for dessert a 40 oz colt mail liquor.

older friendships seemed to be more of a matter of convenience or some religious / political / cultural connection. It seems the older the person the more hardcore their opinions become and less tolerant others. Then again this seems to be true of most people today.
