We don’t really observe Veteran’s Day here in India, but it’s a fact that tens of thousands of Indian soldiers lost their lives in the two world wars, fighting under the British. A thankful salute to them!
The change in the attitude of the American people is amazing. It was not that long ago that a veteran returning home from Viet Nam was despised, spit upon and ostracized from society. No matter what your feelings about that war it was not the individual that risked his life or the one who gave his life that was the problem.
Yesterday was Remembrance Sunday here in the UK. This is part of the service. ‘FREEDOM’ It is the Soldier, not the reporter Who has given us the freedom of the press. It is the Soldier, not the poet Who has given us the freedom of speech. It is the Soldier, not the peace camp organiser Who has given us the freedom to demonstrate. It is the Soldier, who serves beneath the Flag whose coffin is draped by the Flag who allows the protester to burn the Flag It is the Soldier, not the politician Who has given his blood his body his life The Soldier, who has given these freedoms.
11.11. is NOT Veterans Day. It is Armistice Day. It is NOT about those who survived. It is about those who did not and who never became veterans.
They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old: Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morningWe will remember them.

Thank you to all veterans. I wish more attention is given to Korean veterans. It is always the forgotten “police action”.

Politicians start wars and expect soldiers to finish them. Those who call the shots are not the ones getting shot at.

To those who serve and for those who have fallen, thank you
Hero:
one who swears an oath and maintains it, regardless of contrary conditions.
one who honors responsibility to family, friends, and country, when to do otherwise would be easier.
one who acts to preserve the life of another with no regard for personal safety
one who speaks for the defenseless, when public pressures dictate silence.

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.
Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

One of the things that bothered me, and sorry I do nor remember the numbers, was how few people actually knew an active military member.

Many of them have paid the price…once, but their parents pay it everyday, and unfortunately will never be able to forget. I know a couple.
War sucks, and should never be entered into unless as a last resort. Thank you to the guys that fought there, but Vietnam is one of those.

Freedom always has to be fought for again and again by those who don’t like it for others and want to cut, curtail and suppress it.
