That is an interesting factoid about horror movies. ;-)

The spinach one reminds me of an episode of Alf where he got the hiccups.

Take care and may God bless.

Then why did Alfred make movies of such a genre?

Alfred Hitchcock had a pretty dry sense of humor. I think it is likely that he just said that in jest.

The clotting thing makes sense. If you’re frightened, you fear physical damage. So having one’s blood clot more efficiently would be a survival adaptation. Stop you from bleeding out if raked by a claw or a knife or something. Also, thicker blood is likely a bit more efficient at carrying oxygen, which you definitely need in “fight or flight” situations, whether it is run or fight. Both require lots of oxygen in the blood.

Alfred Hitchcock stated that he never drove a car because he was so afraid of getting a ticket.

I guess he was too modest to look at himself onscreen.

Every time I read or hear something about Hitchcock, “Funeral March of a Marionette” gets stuck in my head.

I’m as disgusted as the next person, or more so, at the thought of eating insects or caterpillars.

And I’m not exactly sure what they mean by 12 mm of caterpillars….

I’m guessing it’s a section of one caterpillar, or a whole, tiny one, that’s 12mm long…. though I’d think the diameter would matter.

12 mm is a tiny bit less than half an inch of a caterpillar..

I wouldn’t want to find that in my spinach… but that’s what’s allowed in in 24 pounds.

A 15 oz can of spinach is almost a pound…. that means cans are allowed to average half a millimeter of caterpillar…

ie, a crosswise slice of caterpillar half the thickness of a credit card.

A box of frozen spinach is about 10oz these days… so the average allowed slice per box is 2/3 as thick the one allowed in the can…. a third of a mm… as thick as three sheets of cheap printer paper…

Imagine cutting through three sheets of paper with a hole punch that’s about the diameter of a caterpillar…those three dots of paper are how much of the beast is allowed.

    Would we even see it?

Of course, the problem is, it’s probably not evenly allocated….

maybe it passes inspection if 23 cans (or about 38 10 oz boxes) are clean and one container holds that whole half-inch piece.

With my luck, that would turn up in my serving.

Good thing I don’t like canned or frozen spinach.

Having heard Hitch on numerous occasions, he almost always had a very dry sense of humor, and saying that he was so terrified of his own movies was probably an example of that, and a way to promote them.

Now I know why I feel butterflies in my stomach when I eat spinach.

Or why a small child says, “I need to go pupa” after eating spinach.

Who actually goes through cans of spinach and counts caterpillar parts? I hope it pays a lot.

IMO, none of Hitchcock’ movies are horror movies. Thrillers, Drama, Mystery, Noir…but not Horror. Not even “Psycho”, a Psychological Thriller.

I’m waiting for Sheldon Cooper to show up and calculate just how many complete Caterpillars that Popeye has consumed…

Personally, I find the concept of canned spinach to be totally “yuck,” even without the caterpillar.

Alfred Hitchcock couldn’t watch his own movies? I remember him in movie shorts and his television show as an understated comedian who would lull you into complacency, and then SCARE THE HELL OUT OF YOU!
