I lived less than 30 miles from 3 Mile Island when they f-d up. I have no sympathy for atomic power. My wallet usually has under 5 dollars in it and electric cars sound like a good idea. As to the other three, I don’t use them. Adapt, Ms Benson, or perish.

Lisa Benson is lying about the Green New Deal. Again. (She has done this before).

The Green New Deal is NOT about bovine flatulence (cow farts) or taking away your cars or hamburgers or guaranteeing free money to anyone or telling you things you CAN’T do; massive climate devastation will take away all the things you love to do.

The Green New Deal is about finding fiscally, commercially responsible alternative ways to make sure we CAN continue to do them in sustainable ways AND, in the process, create an economic recovery and broad-based prosperity for everyone, not just a few wealthy and well-connected at the top of the political food chain.

Yes, it is about GREEN. But, as Elizabeth Warren reminded us at the recent climate town hall, it is also about the New Deal. The original New Deal was a plan for rebuilding infrastructure and military strength by PUTTING PEOPLE BACK TO WORK with good wages.

The Green New Deal is not a specific legislative act to be introduced: it is a FRAMEWORK — an outline — of goals and strategies for meeting them.

If we consider that full real long-term costs of energy from Big Carbon (coal, oil and gas), including the costs of both short-term and long-term environmental and climate damage, clean, green renewables are already far less expensive. And moving to a GREEN economy creates jobs in producing green technologies and energy for domestic consumption here and for export internationally and the accompanying new infrastructure needs. And we will need high-skilled, high-paid skilled workers to fill those jobs — with a return to broad-based, wide spread middle class prosperity.

Lisa evidently doesn’t realize how much items 1, 2, 3 and 5 cost item 6.

As far as item 4 goes, a higher initial investment ends up costing less in the long run than a gas or diesel automobile.

But Lisa really wants to take your money by distraction. Kinda like tiny.

I own a Nissan Leaf. It is the best car I have ever owned. It will blow away any gas powered engine on the road. I have never spent more than $3 a day on electricity. Yeah, we bought it used and the battery isn’t what it used to be. I wish it had longer range. It is roomy, cheap to operate (no oil, no transmission fluid, no gasoline, no antifreeze, very low electric costs, etc), handles better than an Audi (my previous standard for cornering). If I want to take a road trip, I can always plot out recharging stations or rent a gas hog or take the train. It is no different than when the gas powered vehicles first became available. You didn’t have a gas station on every corner in the 1920s. There will be more charging stations eventually and the range will increase as batteries improve. Stop acting like owning an electric is some sort of torture – it isn’t.

Plastic straws have nothing to do with climate. It’s a whole other thing that does in fact need to be addressed, but it’s not climate.

Gas powered cars may eventually all become antiques, but it will mostly be because in any sane world, there are so many better ways to get around. And better uses of oil, for that matter. Kind of like how Donny Dumpster keeps pushing coal, but it will never come back because it’s just not a good option any more.

I dunno where he came up with nuclear energy. Is there someone in the Demo-land who’s come out in opposition? In any case, it’s not part of a climate package. In fact nuclear energy, while dirty in other ways, is a good thing for curbing CO₂.

Incandescent bulbs: See “gas powered cars”. I wouldn’t buy one on a bet, even if they were available (hint: I shop garage sales, and I pass them by). LED lights have reached the tipping point for me: Bright enough, good color spectrum and the amortized cost over 10 years is less than resistance bulbs even without counting the cost of the power to light them up.

Red meat. If the Dems are smart, they’ll simply start charging a “climate fee” for operations that create CO₂ in excess of whatever limit. The gradually lower the limit. That will hike the already insane price of red meat to the point where even americans will start to prefer chicken, or “miracle meat” burgers or even tofu (shudder). Or, perhaps it will cause some inventor to figure out a way to create red meat that’s not so climate-damaging.

Your wallet. Standard right-wing meme: Democrats, like all politicians, can always figure out a way to spend your money. Unlike GOPists, though, they mostly give you something back, sometimes even something that’s worth the price. The GOPists (and Lisa, apparently) think that if you charge the very rich their fair share, that’s somehow unfair and will cost most of us something. It won’t.

The greatest fear of losing out on the gas powered car for the electric is someone noticed that with relatively little investment, people can generate their own electricity to power it. This is a big worry for anyone invested heavily in oil.

Ah yes – Benson’s favorite comment: Democrats will spend your money! Beware!

    To review:

Republican’s climate plan: deny that there is a problem and throw snowballs in Congress and their pockets are filled with money from the fossil fuel industry, Koch, etc.

The President’s climate plan: float the idea of purchasing Greenland and then accusing the Danish Prime Minister of being “nasty” when she did what any skilled politician would do: standing up publicly for Danish citizens who have their own government system (Mr. Trump ignores Puerto Ricans because they don’t vote for him – btw an island at increasing risk due to the Republican’s climate plan).

But, the Democrats will spend your money!

It’s apparent from the childish silliness of this cartoon is that to the AAC (All Aryan Cult formerly known as the GOP) there is no problem. Global Warming (Climate Change) is a hoax. Or, if it’s not a hoax, it’s “fake science.” Or, if it’s not fake science, it’s only part of “repeating cycle” and will sort itself out. So if there’s “no problem,” there’s no need to look for any “solution.”

Personally, I would not mourn the end of *incandescent lightbulbs (would companies that make lightbulbs really revamp in order to go back),*gas-powered cars (as long as affordable, as one who hates to drive I can’t wait for self-driving autos), *red meat especially factory farmed (https://www.wcrf.org/dietandcancer/recommendations/limit-red-processed-meat), *plastic straws limited to medically needed (https://www.nationalgeographic.com/environment/2019/06/you-eat-thousands-of-bits-of-plastic-every-year/), *nuclear power (Chernobyl, Three Mile Island). Even if one is wearing blinders and refuses to consider the effects of the above, wouldn’t cleaning up our environment and improving health for our children and children’s children be worth it.

Two not-so-minor departures from reality by the ever-prevaricating Ms Benson should be noted. The incandescent bulb phase out was established in 2007 under George W Bush, a well-known Republican, who signed the Energy and Security Act after it was passed by overwhelming, bipartisan Congressional majorities.

In terms of impact on our wallets, the greatest threat for most Americans come from the Republican side: Trump’s ever-growing tariffs are likely to cost working Americans as much or more as they gained from his tax cuts, and the Republican jihad in court against Obamacare tax credits would cost working Americans even more if it succeeds.

And I don’t give a rat’s ass about plastic bendy straws. Anybody who thinks defending them is a consequential action has a deranged set of priorities. Especially people like Lisa Benson who are more upset about losing them than they are about killing children who have come to the US for medical trials and are likely to die if deported under the Trump regime’s newest atrocity.

As to the light bulb, the act which would change production of incandescents (Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007) was signed by President Bush, not Pres. Obama. Many at the time it was going into effect thot it was a Pres. Obama program and therefore, objected to it. That is (in my opinion) why trump is making an issue of this, he doesn’t know his history.

It’s amazing how you can simply IGNORE reality: In less than 3 years: Golden Rule trade [countries trade with us in a fair way or get tariffed], tax cuts [keeping more of your EARNED money to spend on your family], business taxes reduced to equity with other countries’ HAS brought manufacturing BACK to the USA! [Obama said those jobs were gone forever; he and ALL leftists were WRONG!] The economy is BOOMING now compared to Obama’s ‘manage the USA’s decline’ 8 years! MORE people are working in the USA than ever before! Lowest unemployment rates for Blacks and Hispanics EVER. Wages rising at 3% [working people are being paid MORE and get to KEEP more! This is a GOOD thing!]Wind and solar power produce usable electricity only 20% of the time. Wind dies, the sun sets! Without government [taxpayer-provided] credits, wind and solar AREN’T viable at ALL! [They also would require MILLIONS of acres to generate even partial replacement of the power generated RELIABLY 24 hours a day by coal, oil, natural gas, hydro, and nuclear. Organic [fossil fuels] need a very small amount of land to provide USABLE, AFFORDABLE, fuel for PLANES, [this allows ordinary people the freedom to buy affordable tickets to fly across country, NOW!] Government-MANDATED ‘green’ fuels would make plane travel affordable for ‘VIPs’ only [such as AOC.] Carbon dioxide is a TRACE gas; it is ENTIRELY beneficial and NECESSARY to life on Earth. A penny spent to reduce it is a penny WASTED. Even NASA admits the SUN is what regulates the temperature and climate on Earth.Ruining the economy by spending tens of TRILLIONS to mitigate IMAGINARY problems is STUPID! I will NOT plan my future believing faulty computer models [that projected ‘warming’ at twice or more than the real measured temperatures have shown for 20 years!] More people will continue be raised up out of poverty World-wide by the electricity generated AFFORDABLY 24/7 by fossil fuels [burned cleanly.] How? Vote Republican!

Then the Republicans will being cutting back on Medicare and Social Security to pay for their tax cut. They’ve discussed it, but are afraid to before election time. However, it’s coming.

We can also kiss off a military able to defend ourselves along with the quaint idea of maintaining national borders since those dollars will be redirected toward transforming the other 49 states into California. Amazingly that is the same answer to the population crisis, the cooling Earth crisis or any other crisis, real or imagined. All the money and all the “Sustainable” plans will not change the temperature by a single degree in 100 years… and that is from the Ecologists! Even more amazing, the temperature of the Earth is cooler than its average!
