I am constantly trying to keep Diesel off my keyboard, so that last panel made me snort. Love the Happy Teeth!

Beatrix definitely gets into her work. At least she has not yet started recategorizing all the books from a cat’s point of view.

Not only bookstore cats, but I’m old enough to remember record store cats as well (the non-chain record stores, of course). Especially one particular store where a rather enormous tabby could always be found hunkered down on this or that box of albums. I’d approach the box and the cat would allow one eye to open halfway, providing a glare which clearly said: “There’s nothing in this box you want to listen to”. So . . . thus provided with an Expert Musical Critical Opinion . . . I would inevitably move on.

She’d go great with Doris, the Caldicot Town Cat.

OT….I would appreciate a few healing boops today. I am heading to the hospital for surgery on an arthritic wrist and will be bumbling around with a cast on my dominant hand for a few weeks. It will be worth it to relieve the constant bone on bone pain so I am actually looking forward to getting it done. Thank you orbsters.

Any one of four cats will come over and plop down on the keyboard of my note book computer and say: “What your’e doing is unimportant. Pay attention to me now.” And sometimes, they will typeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee one of the keys.

Tuesday a friend said there were orphaned kittens in the weeds behind his shop and he was afraid they’d get killed if someone didn’t help. We caught two in a live trap and it looks like that’s all there were. They’re tiny, about 7-8 weeks old, covered in ringworm and who knows what else. The vet tested them for FeLV and FIV yesterday and they’re ok, so now I’m bathing kittens and doing the 10% bleach dance to keep the rest of the guys healthy. Right now they’re small enough to only hurl invective when being bathed but before we’re done I’ll bet they will be able to really let me know how they feel. I hope I’m just fostering them.

My wife’s computer has its power switch on the top (actually, my bad – I will never get one line that for her again). And I ended up having to make a box so the cats don’t push the switch accidentally .

Bookstore Lady seems to understand the balance between protecting inventory and enjoying the entertainment value of kitten antics.

I had to shut down the Desktop Computer in the back room. I would go in to pet on Kiki and see the monitor lit up. She has been walking across the desktop, and across the keyboard. :D

Past couple of days Kiki has been exploring the hallway. This morning she stated exploring the rest of the house.

She went to check out the birds and Jack (Cockateel) freaked out. Then Kiki freaked out and ran back to her room like greased lightning! :D

Looks like Beatrix is well on her way to complete mastery. The cash register reset is quite advanced.

Off topic, I was away yesterday, for my partner’s chemo treatment. Previously he had been getting rejected for treatments because his white blood counts were low. After previous treatment, they gave him a shot to improve his white counts. It gave him several days of serious bone/joint pain, but the results were good so he didn’t have to miss a treatment this time. Also the oncologist compared a new scan with a year old scan. The bad news was the tumor hadn’t shrunk, but the good news was that the tumor hadn’t grown or spread. The scary news was I peeked at the doctor’s notes, and learnt for the first time that his cancer is stage 3. While reading about that (on the innertoobs, hah!) I found out more about living with pancreatic cancer, which used to be so quickly fatal. We live in interesting times.

There is an old ragtime piano piece called “Kitten On the Keys.”

If not Beatrix’s theme song, it should at least be in her life’s soundtrack.

    .

(If you don’t want to listen to the whole thing, skip to about the 2:00 or 2:30 minute mark, that’s where it gets extra kitteny.)

We just got two bookstore/newspaper cats – Pica & Typo – and Typo has already walked on my keyboard and renamed folders. The kid has talent! They are tortoiseshell sisters, one shorthair and one longhair, who are growing into their job titles as rodent control officers.

OT. Thank you all for the good boops and purrs. I am home trying to keep the still numb splinted arm balanced on pillows on a chair arm so the wrist is higher than heart level. Since it is still numb enough to seem like a log attached to my elbow, it’s a little tricky…think dental numb lip and gum times about 10,000, but dr was pleased so we will see next Weds how it is going and exchange the splint wrapped in ace bandages for a fiberglass cast. Cheers to the wonderful denizens of the Orb!
