It kinda hurts a little when, years later, you find the gift packed away in its original box.

Arlo will most likely be watching the College World Series tonight at 6:30 Central/7:30 Eastern. His Auburn Tigers are in Omaha.

Well, he did take Janis to the Dollar Store and let her pick out her present on Mother’s Day. So, they’re even.

The words of the day are “KISS” and relax. Make inane comments here. Spend time with the kids. Watch some Footy. Grill some steak and corn on the cob with my son. The only thing I asked of my wife is to make her sauteed mushrooms to accompany the steak and another veggie. “Happy, Happy, Joy, Joy”

I can’t speak for other fathers, but I don’t want or need adulation or even attention. Knowing that my son is an independent man with a wife and two daughters – as well as a good career – is all that I need.

Happy Father’s Day to all the Fathers, Father-in-laws, and Grandfathers. As I’ve said, ours is a large family. Those criteria total fifty for me

The world needs more genuinely happy and decent and low-maintenance people like Arlo. But then again, he already won the lottery with Janis, so maybe he just knows better than to be greedy.

    Yep – men are easy. A red 911, a hot blonde . . . but I digress.

I grew up with the philosophy – which my husband has sort come to understand (him " but really, what do you want for your birthday" me -“nothing” and he has learned that same is what I mean.) that I don’t value stuff. It exists to be used for its intended purpose (and any other purpose one can find for it) but the accumulation of stuff is waste of time and money unless there is reason for the purpose. Bear figurines/toys for my collection that meet a need in the collection are great, and the cheaper the better – but to just buy one because it is an “occasion” is a waste of money. (Yesterday I blew $2+ tax on two leis for the village – the bears want to decorate the tree – it started as a Christmas village so there is an artificial tree in the center – one in spring colors and one in 4th of July colors as they want to decorate it for other seasons as I now change out what and who is there by season. To him I should get expensive – well, expensive to us – things for it as the assorted occasion gifts whether it is something that I want for the village or not. To me – it has to make sense catch my eye and be CHEAP. )

The concept of cheap and only if needed or really wanted was foreign to him when we got together. Now he likes the idea – instead of trying to find something because it is an occasion that calls for something for gifts between the two of us – only buy it if it is really wanted or needed no matter when it is found.
