I’m thinking of wearing a button with the words: “Hi! I’m an OCWJWTKYN,NYR/SO/ES/MS. What kind of books do you like to read?” but I can’t find a button big enough!

When I was (much) younger and ethnic identity became a big thing I would always reply, “I’m an American.” . People would press the issue by saying something like, “No, I mean where are you from?” and I would reply, “Binghamton, NY.” . I did that partly because I’ve always been a contrary SOB and partly because I was tired of being insulted because of my Polish heritage.

For clarity here, tribe; any aggregate of people united by ties of descent from a common ancestor, community of customs and traditions, adherence to the same leaders, It is not exclusive to indigenous or aboriginal people.

I am an OWCAM (Old; white; Christian; American; male), and people all over this country and this world want to blame my demographic ‘tribe’ for their problems. Sorry, you’ll have to take a number and wait in line. Oh, and I stopped accepting invitations to play those blame games, so….

I’m working on fierce – I’ve got the cuddly and nuts parts down pat.
