About Bloom County Continues

The 1980s were a golden age for comic strips, introducing us to "The Far Side," "Calvin and Hobbes," and "Bloom County." Each strip became a cultural touchstone, only to be retired at the peak of their popularity by their award-winning creators. Fans have since pleaded for their return through fan mail and social media, but to no avail—until now.

Berkeley Breathed has come out of retirement after Donald Trump entered the crowded field of Republican presidential candidates. Inspired by Trump’s promise to "make America great again," Breathed is revitalizing "Bloom County" with "Bloom County Continuees". Opus, Milo, Bill the Cat, and the rest of the Bloom House crew are back, quickly resuming their role in mocking the Republican campaign and the absurdities of national politics.

"Bloom County" centers on the residents of Bloom House, a boarding house run by the parents of 10-year-old reporter Milo Bloom. The characters, including Opus, Bill the Cat, and Oliver Wendell Jones, parody everything from presidential campaigns to the war on drugs. No one was off-limits, including Donald Trump.

After a 25-year hiatus, Breathed remarked, "Silliness suddenly seems safe now."
