The IMF warned earlier this month that U.S. President Donald Trump’s protectionist trade policies, including the imposition of steel and aluminium tariffs on key allies, pose a threat to undermine the global trading system.
IMF managing director Christine Lagarde said that with the global economy in a reasonably good place – with GDP growth of 3.9 percent forecast this year “provided things go in the right direction” – policymakers should instead be concentrating on issues such as climate change, inequality and debt.
The last lines are classic:“…I would be surprised if we were in full-blown escalation because the consequences would be too great. At some point, there will be a turning back. For Trump, stepping back from his policy will take the form of finding a way to declare a victory. And if you are not constrained by facts, it is easier to find ways to declare a victory.”

Trump could be the Devil in “Damn Yankees”, singing:
Whenever I’m from time to time depressed
And a trauma wells and swells
Within my breast
I find some pride deep inside of me
And I fondly walk down the lane of memory
I see Bonaparte
A mean one if ever I’ve seen one
And Nero fiddlin’ thru that lovely blaze
Antionette, dainty queen, with her quaint guillotine
Ha ha ha ha
Those were the good old days

A metathree? Trump’s understanding of economics is more like a three-penny whopper.
Meanwhile, his “orthodox” followers are taking his ravings as gospel, when they’re really parabulls.

Bennie must’ve been a Euclid and Pacioli devotee; he knew a golden ratio when he drew one.
