I think the parents cannot wait for Young Adults Who Can Be Independent Themselves Day (I seem oblivious of there being Parents Day).

Pssh, who has time to iron shirts? Also, c’mon, Luann – I started doing my own laundry well before age nineteen. Grow up a bit.

Ha, you must not know millennial’s these days. Actually generational history had generations staying home longer in an agrarian age, then it got shorter in an urban, industrialized one, now in a techno age, it’s getting longer again. There are external reasons—school loan debt, cost of housing, need to go to school longer to get good-paying employment—and internal ones—frankly Baby Boomers are in the dilemma of being empty nesters who suddenly have freedom, to being empty nesters who suddenly need help, so there are all kinds of reasons why young adults stay home, and get more dependent on parents than before. My daughter still brings her clothes here on wash day, which we don’t mind as long as she does them herself, and gets them in and out, which she does as well. I am sure when she can afford to get a in-home washing machine and dryer she will, but this kind of thing is not uncommon. Our neighbor girl used to ship her clothes home by international mail, from Japan, for her mom to wash them, and I thought that was a bit much (lol).

‘Parents Day’ was first set in South Korea, and was a time to give flowers (not work tasks) to parents. It was later established in the US, but, other than being a reason for more cards to be generated by manufacturers like Hallmark, I’m not sure that any special celebrations are promoted. (Unlike all the sales that stores have for ‘Mothers Day’ and ‘Fathers Day’.)

I didn’t even know it was Parents’ Day. I guess Mother’s Day and Father’s Day weren’t making the greeting card companies enough money.

Next, Brothers Day will be a Sunday in August, and Sisters Day will be a Sunday in September. Then Siblings Day in October.

As a freshman in college I taught most of my hall mates how to sort and do laundry and do basic cleaning. For most of them it was the first time in their lives they’d had to do laundry and clean their rooms. One even asked me which day the maid came in!!!!! I just smiled and handed her the big hose vac and showed her how to hook it up. But you know they all eventually learned and felt very proud of themselves.

Cute Punch-line, today. Luann shows how much She appreciates Her parents by make them do work. Kinda like the way Les is about to “appreciate” Gunther when they finally take up residence in the Gulag.

Ironically, Luann KNOWS how to wash, iron, and fold clothes. She once volunteered to do that for Irma Berger a few years back when She broke her leg. And if Lu can change a tire, then mounting a towel rack would present no problem.

Hey, here’s an idea: The now “muddied” Jack should tell Luann that in addition to not knowing how to change a tire, He doesn’t know how to operate that new washer and dryer at his Crib. And wonders if Luann can come over and (A-Hem) “Show Him How?”

Luann is at that age she needs to do laundry herself and if she doesn’t know how to fix a toilet then either look it up online or at least let her dad help her so she can learn something instead of just passing the job off to him.

In a classic Peanuts cartoon, Linus asks an old lady (you don’t see her), “There is Mother’s Day and Father’s Day, when is Children’s Day?” The old lady replies, “Why every day is Children’s Day my dear.” However: Luann is not “Children” anymore.

Nancy should have escorted Luann to the ironing board, instructed her what to do (in case Luann at age 18+ is unable to iron clothes), and then walked away.

@PRESCOTT_PHILOSOPHER: You’re probably right that the Evans’ were being sarcastic, or mildly funny. But the sad thing is, there are posters who are on this site only for one reason: to post as many negative comments about the title character as they can, in order to finally rile up those who enjoy this ‘toon. Then, when those who enjoy the ’toon respond, the hate-baiters can respond with indignation about how their right to an opinion is being infringed upon and so on and so on. Thing is, some of these, uh, entities are in such a hurry to slam the Luann character that they don’t take enough time to actually get some facts straight. For example, a poster taking the name of a decent drummer in vain has yarped that ‘Parents Day’ was a product of ‘Slick Willie’. By that, CLEVER BOOTS SHILLY SHALLY has also hinted at his political opinion. But a little research on Wikipedia shows that ‘Parents Day’ actually orginated as a Congressional Resolution initiated by (wait for it) *Republican Senator Trent Lott* (presumably someone who would be greatly approved by the poster. President Clinton signed it into law, but it originated among those who were not affiliated with the political party that DINGLE SILLY SALLY presumably respects.

Sarcasm, mild humor or whatever, as someone who grew up taking carts of laundry down to the basement of our apartment building to run the loads , I find it mildly irritating that someone who is an adult and in college still treats her parents as maid service. I don’t care if it is the lead protagonist or some other. Frank and Nancy are main characters too and they are to be respected.
