Ernie, you couldn’t find your way out a wet paper bag.

    Or even find the bathroom.

I wonder if Alice thinks of herself as a seeker.

Why just yesterday he found a gum wrapper, a rock, a broken bottle, a very aged banana, a trouser button, and a large piece of fuzz. And that was in the back hall.

What wonders await him on the front walk?

Alice is shocked as she always thought of Ernie as a keeper.

Alice is relieved, because she’s started losing things more and more. “I was sure I put it right there a minute ago….”

My finder skills have come into play a bit more often as of late.

And here I thought Alice was looking at him that way because just this morning, he asked her where she put his slippers…

“Right in front of your chair where you left them last night.”

his car keys…. "Look in your pants pocket…. no, not those….

that’s the problem…. you wore your green pants yesterday."

and his glasses…. “You’re wearing them, dear.”

    Every morning, a different list.

It’s true that he finds “things,” as Rose already mentioned.

Things that are in his path…. things that he encounters….

But… things that he’s looking for… things that he needs…

    his things…..

    Not so much.

Alice is worried that his next statement will be something like, “And lately, I have found that you have stolen my heart.” or some other such nonsense.

Alice thinks of him more as an equalizer, since he always loses the things he finds…

As my mother descended into dementia, she was sure “people” stole her things: her blouse, her stew pot, her coat etc. after months of me finding her things (in the dryer, at the very back of the cupboard, in the hall closet) she said "Its very suspicious that after “people” steal my things, you are the one to find them. Sigh.

Ernie, you’d save yourself a lot of time and effort if you would just keep up with things.
