It’s just unlucky that everytime Calvin is curious, his parents are never there to see it.

On travelling near the Kansas/Nebraska one clear night where you could see horizon to horizon. When we stopped, got out of the car and turned the lights off, the sky was so brilliant it was scary! My sister-in-law would NOT get out of the car.

As Douglas Adams said, to survive in a universe this size, the one thing you do not need is a sense of proportion.

Wouldn’t it be fantastic to explore those limetless reach’s instead of just fighting amongst ourselves?

All the stars indeed. It’s reckoned that there are more stars in the Universe than there are grains of sand on the Planet Earth. THAT’S something to consider…

Space: the final frontier. These are the voyages of the intrepid Spaceman Spiff. His continuing mission: to explore strange new worlds, to seek out new life and new civilizations, to boldly go where no other six year old has gone before.

People from before only had the stars and the moon as light and guidance. Now there’s so much light on the ground, it reflects on the sky and you can barely see the stars anymore.

It is a moving experience to think of all the photons being put out by all those stars, radiating out into space “uselessly” leaving just a few photons left striking my retina safe to look at. And I may be one of the only few intelligent beings (if I do say so myself) to appreciate those stars at the moment I’m looking at them. But now it’s summer and I’m rarely out past dark.

You will be lucky to see on a clear night without the moon and no other light sources somewhere in the number of 4,500 to 5,200 stars in any hemisphere.

I like the third panel where both the friends are looking at gross sky with stars aptly drawn by Bill Waterson.
