We luckily don’t get many fireworks going off in the village where we are in Bulgaria but June/July is typically thunder season and it sends our dogs out of their minds and they would be joining the boys in the closet or hanging from around our necks. Our cat, Stitch, on the other hand usually sleeps through it all. Brilliant strip from Georgia as always… i can feel the boys anxiety and the woman’s pain OUCH in the last panel. Elvis’ cry of ‘TO THE CLOSET, WOMAN!’ just made me snort on my drink laughing though, LOL
My beloved Saul was never bothered much by fireworks. I know he wasn’t deaf, even though he was an albino Siamese, because he could hear my husband walking toward the apartment building from a block away. He’d rush to the window and sit looking out until it was time to go to the front door.
Don’t worry kitties. Ancient astronaut theorists suggest that cat aliens have returned to earth after centuries, and are attacking to take over this planet once again. Soon, humans shall worship cat gods again…
Please remember to take care of your fur babies whenever your community has fireworks. Put your furbabies in a safe room and turn on music or the television so the noise from the fireworks won’t bother them as much.
Around here it will be Xanax for the dog and the 4 cats will look at the dog like he’s lost his mind. The cats don’t care about thunder or fireworks. They’ll get attention and catnip while the 95lb dog cowers on the floor next to us. I really dislike the neighbors. Especially since fireworks are illegal here and I don’t live close to city sponsored shows.
In the little town where I used to live over 25 years ago, our house was close enough that we could see (and hear) the city fireworks from our backyard. My cat’s teleportation powers kicked in with the first aerial bomb that started the show.
Neither my current two or previous four are/were bothered by fireworks or thunder luckily. Mozart actually loved to sit in the window and watch storms totally unbothered by the noise and vibrations – bring out the vacuum however and he’d cower a la Puck :)
My second pair of cats were litter mates, brother and sister. The female was terrified of thunder, the male wasn’t the least bit bothered. Who knows why some animals react to noises like thunder or fireworks and others don’t.
Tuffie, 8 year old retired Chicago alley cat, is completely indifferent to fireworks. Young Mini, 14 months, is having her first Fourth of July in this household… Fingers are crossed.
I have four furred babies and I hate fourth of July. Not the holiday just the fireworks. And I do not bring them to shows. Idiots down the street every year set them off, even though they are illegal in the city.
My three will be safely inside the house where loud noises are well-muffled. Unfortunately, I can’t say the same for the barn cats on any of our farms, especially the ones that must endure the family hotdog/marshmallow roast tonight. Hopefully, the brothers won’t set a soybean field ablaze with the fireworks…again.

Well, what are you supposed to do when the world ends? Why waste the potato salad?

Love Elvis extra puffy tail in the last panel. All good boys should have potato salad and ham.

Same here, my cats pay all the booms, fizzles, pops and bangs hardly any mind but the dogs are on edge and keep milling around unsettled.

The few sad fireworks in this little hick town are too far away for them to bother our kitties.
