Note the ‘Chibi’ version of CosUCon’s mascot on the flyer in the lower right panel.

    Here’s a question …

As the Sunday strips are done weeks in advance, did Joe pencil this one?

    That’s a hefty grand prize.

Think I see what the ‘crime’ might involve.

    Compare and Contrast …

‘Astro Boy’ opening from 2003: Note that Astro had by this point incorporated Megaman’s transforming arm-gun into his arsenal …

Show me yours, I’ll show you mine, at the Cos Convention

Costumes foster rich role-play. Act-out sans pretention.

You be good and I’ll be bad. Hold me in detention

Routine day shall slip away at the merest mention

Of cosplay fun. Workweek done. Costumed intervention

Take me to the Costume Con, mundane in suspension.

Humdrum takes a holiday. Of doldrums full prevention

We laugh and dance, display and prance, comrades sans contention.

Treat it as a holiday. Cosplay invites invention

Play dress up. Never enough. Welcome this fine dimension.

When at dusk the sun goes down our smiles share retention

What a day! Now I must say, a thrill this Cos Convention.

That’s a hefty prize for the winner. I don’t suppose these two will in the adult category will they?

Who do you think is going to win? My bets are on Honeymoon, once she starts with the real shazaam!

@ Neil Wick and Anyface: $10k that big of a prize today? Seems like peanuts to me – and to any Tracy-worth villain. But what do I know? I’ve never hung out at these conventions!

And after Astroboy is finished, I hope we’re all ready for the great Alley Oop crossover!

For those who are trying to figure out who Honeymoon is cosplaying as, it is a character from the video game Overwatch called Symmetra Here is a photo: https://pbs.twimg.com/media/Ci1-V6QWkAAPcbq.jpg

Of coarse, if there will be an adult competition, there will be a crime that can only be solved by none other than… DICK TRACY!

I’d never have known Honeymoon’s costume was based on an Overwatch character. I know the game has great character designs and is very popular (I’m not a gamer), but she doesn’t look much like Symmetra to me so I’d be guessing all day.

I guess the costumes won’t be all that recognizable; well, licensing fees would probably apply.

Of course, comic book characters now have so many variant costumes, you could put a bat on practically anything, and you’d have ‘Bat-somebody.’

Honeymoon is looking sharp in her Symmetra costume. What a great character! More of the good stuff from Team Tracy, featuring the talented Shelley Pleger. Will Honeymoon have any trouble with her antennae lighting up during the cosplay?

Thanks to Vista Bill, Neil Wick, Gweedough, Chris Sherlock, Night-Gaunt49, Belawhiskers, JPuzzleWhiz (nice!) and Ray Toler for the kind words. Very much appreciated.

It seems to me that Cheapskate0 has a valid point, that $10000 is not a major score for any big-time criminal. That leads me to suspect we may find a double whammy going on here. Some petty thief tries to hijack the contest prize, while a bigger villain maybe tries to clean out the whole convention take. I can see lots of cosplay confusion and hostage holding along the way if it plays out as I currently suspect….

So could a contestant (like Honeymoon or Mysta Chimera) be disqualified for “displaying super-powers” during the competition?

Is this strip ever going to get back to Dick Tracy? Or just continue to pursue various juvenile trash for lack of any original thought?

I wonder if we’ll see Doubleup checking out the collectors’ comics. He’d have to be careful – there are sellers pushing counterfeit books for big bucks.

There’s a lot more going on at conventions than the costume competition.

This promises a lot of xovers, at least in walkons. The victim du jour should be dressed as a Star Trek crewman, complete with the red shirt.
