I loved that movie, Batman vs. Super Gunther.

Uh-oh. We’ve hit a snag in the “be alone with Piro” plan, Bernice.

This’ll end well.

OH BROTHER!!!!! Paris strikes again! well, at least will strike Gunther out. I’m hoping he strikes out! Hes not in love with Bernice. He thinks Paris will reject him.

I predicted Gunther would want to show up for this thing. Next week should be interesting.

Oh oh…this is about to get really messy!

Even if Gunther knew that Bernice’s plan was to be alone with Piro, I suspect that he would go to the silent movie just to deter a romance between Bernice and Piro.

So this is the set-up. Bernice is besotted (there I use that old English word again) with Piro, who appears to have any idea or concern about her romantically, while Gunther, who is maybe besotted with Bernice, may show up at the same time, to show his feelings for Bernice. One clueless girl with an open nose, and one clueless boy with a painful shyness. And Piro. Please finish this story arc Evans, don’t be mean.

Piro: handsome man of mystery, friendly toward both Bernice and Tiffany, but turned off by Tiff’s aggressive pass toward him. Leaned toward Bernice while they watched Wings. Has complimented Bernice and made a New York suggestion for her. Bernice: very interested in Piro but cautious. Wants to learn more about him first but that is hard to do. Has (apparently accurately) noticed Tiffany’s interest in Gunther and suggested to Gunther that he make a pass for Tiff. Is afraid Tiff could outcompete her for Piro. Oblivious to Gunther’s interest in her which appears to be more like a chart than anything emotionalGunther: totally out of touch with himself. Obviously attracted to Tiffany but thinks he is supposed to be interested in Bernice and has told Tiffany. Very jealous of Piro without even knowing him because his attraction throws off his charted plan.Tiffany: appears to be very interested in Gunther for the right reasons, but figures he must know what he wants and needs, so wants to help him. Has unsuccessfully tried drawing away Piro because of Bernice’s interest in him, and is trying to help Gunther get together with Bernice.When this splats in everyone’s faces will the truths come out?

I do (miss Rosa). And Quill. Everybody else is spooky.

Gunther and Piro are not going to hit it off. Gunther sees himself as Superman, while Piro, who has openly admitted that Nosferatu is his favorite, is squarely on Team Batman.

I think Tiffany is being really nice here.

Tiffany might not be academically inclined, but she sure picked up on the ramifications of the two movie situation with ease.

What could possibly go wrong with Bernie’s silent movie plan?

Now we know. With well-meaning Tiffany’s help, grungy Gunny will show up to challenge dark, brooding, mysterious Piro, and Bernice will end up the evening with neither. Frustration will continue, for Bernice and for any reader hoping to see finally a successful romance….

Here in Memphis with “Team Evans” at the Reuben Awards. News flash: Greg and Karen are not joined at the head and appear to be independently operating human beings. Furthermore Greg is not a zombie-eyed hollowed out shell who blindly follows the capricious whims of his comic mistress, Karen. I will observe them, however, and take note of any napkin scribbles they may leave behind about Aaron Hill, Dirk, Zane, Farley … oops, wrong strip, and other cast members who reside in the ethereal realm of the comic undead.

Why don’t YOU Shower Tiffany with Compliments on how Lovely She looks tonight? Aaaaaand – there’s the plot twist.

Several of you saw this coming. Kudos. I am trying to wrap my head around Superhero Gunther, here. And speaking of Superman, although Gunther wasn’t exiled to the Phantom Zone by Bernice, he was consigned to the Friend Zone, which is worse. Most 19 year old males would gently drift away to a neutral position – at least, I would have.

What could possibly go wrong?

Maybe it’s just me, but shouldn’t Tiffany be in a sorority, binge drinking, and making other bad choices over of Fraternity Row? Tiffany just seems out of place with this particular group.

I am quite sure you misread Luanphile’s comment, as he was clearly referring to per-1980 Superman comic books whereas you appear to have assumed he was referring to the Luann comic strip, even though that assumption does not fit the context of his post.

There have been various explanations for Superman/Kal El’s grooming over the year, including the following: his hair does not grow on Earth; he uses a shard of his spaceship to shave; or he uses heat vision to burn off the stubble. All are quite flawed, but millions of readers, TV viewers and moviegoers have been willing to suspend a great deal of disbelief with respect to Superman.

Gunther, be sure to load up you backpack with your very heaviest books, so that you can pummel the evil Piro to a pulp by clobbering him with it repeatedly, all the while bravely proclaiming that it’s just an accident and you are in fact doing no such thing. Super-Gunther – our hero!!!

Oh My, what a tangle of interests, wants, & needs these youngsters are going through.

Correct – Supes burns off the stubble and cuts his hair with his heat vision reflected from a mirror. I believe that in at least some versions of the story, he uses a “shaving mirror” fashioned from the heat shield of the rocket that brought him to earth as an infant, since a normal glass mirror would shatter from the heat.

I find Tiffany’s suggestion to Gunther to be more endearing than the Dez/Bernice plan for Bernice to get to know Piro better, even though neither seem likely to work. Now, if Tiffany decides to intervene by trying to lead others away from the silent movie showing, I will find it less endearing, as it would turn from a suggestion to a TJ-like scheme (like the Dez/Bernice plan), but right now it seems to be just Tiffany trying to help her pal achieve what he thinks he wants to achieve. Tiffany and Gunther may never be a romantic pairing (although I would be pleased if they were), but I enjoy the growth she has shown – the character has never seemed to truly care about anyone else the way she does for Gunther.

I don’t like where this is going…

I have always found the apparent lack of logic in self care and self actualization to be very, well, illogical. Confusing and confounding, too!:-P

Don’t these two realize that they are good for each other? It is time for another “moment” when hormones rise and rational controls fall……just a little.

The good news, Tiffany means well here… nothing in it for her.

In their last go-around, trying to trap Piro, we left Gunther gazing down Tiff’s cleavage and starting to sweat. I swear, that guy must have defensive shields that would put Star Trek’s Enterprise to shame.

Perhaps he just does it to elicit a response for y’all.

The Superman story gets rebooted by DC every few years. They’re doing it again, right now.

In the reboot of Superman that’s going on now, the new version of Supes hasn’t been shaving for a while:--I suspect that will change next month, when he once again starts wearing a version of the traditional red and blue long johns.

Without question, the worst-looking version of Superman was the one from the 1990s, when he continued shaving but stopped cutting his hair, choosing to wear it in a mullet:-

Bernice was checking out gunther in the new years eve party when gunther came back from peru and the gang had theie first new year eves celebration since college began. I was just reading in the archives. I’m no luann historian but i wonder if teams evans was foreshadowing

Yup! Gunther appears to have reverted to his old high school self. Dazed amazed and confused.

Tiff may indeed have good intentions, but since no one communicates their real feelings in this triangle, this whole scene coming up will be interesting.

I think Rosa has potential but somehow the character never felt quite 3D to me. It would be interesting, though, to see how close to a year in Luannetime assisting at a mountain medical clinic might affect her.

In the year and a half since Gunther returned from Peru, he has not tried to contact Rosa, and she has not tried to contact him. Put that relationship in the Luann / Aaron Hill folder marked “expired”.

Reminds me of Delta’s old plan to get Aaron Hill to fix Luann’s locker, and Elwood came to fix it instead

Worst thing is that for once Tiffany isn’t trying to annoy anybody; she’s sincerely trying to help somebody.
