No, don’t really need some “holiday” to learn to appreciate someone…. never take for granted the people that are good to you, every day…. – All the people who give and love because they want to, and not just the people who “do something or give you something”- but the friends who are family, the family who are friends….

Brad missed a great opportunity here. He kinda is the only real “father-figure” Shannon has. He should have said thanks, hugged her back, then reminded her to tell Jonah that too, instead of shooting her down the way he did.

I see where Greg is trying to go with this, and I applaud Brad for trying to remind Shannon who her real father is, and to give him his props. But I think Shannon already knows the difference between the two. She doesn’t call him “Dad….” but “Bwad.”

Still, Shannon’s intentions seem to be quite clear. She wants Bwad to be Dad. Perhaps Greg’s/Karen’s also. At this point, I think it would be cruel for them to not let Brad/Toni adopt Shannon. She’s come such a long way. At least, hopefully, they’ll be some kind of extended visitation.

If they do get to adopt Shannon, I hope that, eventually, Brad/Toni have their own biological children. Probably best to wait a bit until Shannon is a bit older, and could start to learn some of the responsibilities of “motherhood.” She’d be involved in raising her younger siblings and, hopefully, it would result in less “sibling rivalry/resentment” on her part.

Anyway, Happy Father’s day to all those good Dads out there!

C’mon Brad – loosen up. You know where this is heading, that little one loves you to bits. Remember shopping for Valentine’s cards a couple of years ago?

I think he knows…. but he also knows he can’t fully claim her just yet… and it pains him… just a little. It’s important (at least for now) for Shannon to remember who her real father is and to respect him for that, as long as he retains that roll.

That said, I’d be sorely disappointed if this doesn’t end in Shannon being adopted by Brad/Toni.

There have been lots of “Brad is more of a father to Shannon than Jonah is” comments today, We don’t know that. We see Shannon with Brad only when Toni is baby-sitting, which is probably 5% of the time. In the 95% of the time when Shannon and Jonah are at home together, theirs could be a normal single-parent family life. The one thing we have seen demonstrated repeatedly is that Brad and Toni would be irresponsible parents for Shannon (and presumably for their own kids).

Mordock999 said, .Frank?WHERE The HECK Is FRANK?Its Father’s Day and No Frank, GREG!" . . . ."-——————————————-The Brad / Shannon bit was nice, but it told us nothing new..What would have been more interesting here with a “father’s day theme” would have been something a bit more revealing about Tiffany and her father. .That is IMO a subject worthy of being explored. What makes Tiff like she has always been — constantly worried about her looks, boasting and strutting, yet clearly jealous of Luann — is key to almost all the strips that have ever featured her. .(Explanations would involve Tiff’s mother, too, of course. We know even less about her.)

Brad – You are wrong on SO many levels:*1) Shannon is trying to bond with you— reply in kind.2) You are not her biological dad, but so what? You are a better kind of “dad” to her— one who spends time with her and teaches her things she needs to know. Father’s Day is a great day to celebrate ALL the men who have helped make us the people we are.3) I wish “Happy Father’s Day” even to women— we too are celebrating the great men in our lives!4) You’re Shannon’s coach, teacher, adviser, friend, disciplinarian— sounds like a dad to me.

Whoa, that’s cold. I have the best stepdad in the world, who has always been wonderful to me, better than my biological father. Don’t correct her, Brad, just be thankful! She’s young and she looks up to an important male figure… that’s a compliment, and something of an emotional risk on her part, too! Lots of people who aren’t literally biological fathers get Father’s Day cards and wishes. Heck, when I was shopping for my (step) Dad’s card, I saw grandpa and uncle and vaguer ‘man who I look up to’ cards.

Get used to it, Brad. If Shannon’s gonna be spending a lot of time with Toni, you’re going to be the closest thing to a dad that she’ll know. Don’t blow it.That said, this day’s always a little weird for me. I don’t have any children. I do have a stepson, who was 21 when I married his mother. So he really didn’t need a whole lot of raising from me. His two kids do know me as Grandpa, however.

Look, it’s obvious to everyone that the Evanses are trying to steer public opinion so that all the readers will be overjoyed when newlyweds Brad and Toni adopt Shannon as their daughter. But I’m not buying into it. The only evidence presented that Jonah does a poor job as a single father is the “Halloween party” arc. In that week’s strips, we were told that Jonah usually leaves his daughter alone in a bedroom while he attends a Halloween party for adults in the other part of the house. That’s certainly no atmosphere for a kid, so what do you want him to do other than leave her by herself in the bedroom? (1) Not go to the party at all? Maybe, but what if this is a party for all the cast in a play in which he is acting, at the director’s house? Would it be responsible for him to decline the invitation, at the risk of offending his boss? So the alternative is (2) get a baby-sitter. This is exactly what happens, when Brad offers to take Shannon for the whole evening.

But it truly is amazing, considering that actually renting the space, bringing it up to code, renovating it as a gallery, and paying the insurance, utilities, etc., will cost 20 to 30 times as much as they have to spend on it. Amazing!

seismic, a lot of times the undertone done by Brad and most of all by his sister is that Jonah does not take responsibility of his daughter, but rather sees her as an “obligation that he wishes he could give to someone else” and usually does, mostly to his sister, and “if” we consider her Lindy Lewis cousin (Mrs Lewis or Mr Lewis might be Shannon’s mom sibling) back from 1996, he sometimes gives his daughter to her? or at least when Shannon was younger……………….. in strips we have to a lot of times give more weight than in real life to “the image given” as it is usually what the writer/artist wants to INTENTIONALLY portray

Brad’s role vis a vis Shannon is difficult and fraught with minefields. Brad doesn’t want to usurp the real father’s role; and I suspect he and Toni still hope Jonah will “father up” despite all the evidence to the contrary. I don’t think Brad’s response is about wanting to distance himself from Shannon as much as it ’s about not wanting to cause problems with Jonah.
