Spiff didn’t realize he was headed into occupied territory.
imagine: being sent home from school because of the coronavirus
this is great
I thought Calvin had to ride a bus to get to school. Long walk home…
Zark: The Galaxy’s truant officer.
Nice try, Spiff.
He should cross over to his other universe, once and for all, end of strip!!
Panel #3 Calvin’s excuse remind me Joliet Jake in front of Carrie Fisher with her gun machine .
I love his translation into the whole of Spaceman Spiff, regardless of what happens or what the consequences are.
(The Doors’ Jim Morrison sang it) “This is the end, my only friend, the end…”
Well, Spaceman Spiff, face facts: you’re for it! LOL
I went to a Christian school a block from my house. I came home on a 10:00 a.m. break for a project I forgot or something one day and mom was vacuuming. I snuck about without her seeing me and changed the clocks to noon. Then I walked in and told her I was home for lunch. She was shocked but she apologized and set to fixing me food. I couldn’t keep up the charade as I had to be back at school but she laughed. I miss her.
Note that Calvin is merely trying to excuse why he’s home from school. He does not mention anything about Spaceman Spiff or his antics. It’s pretty clear that he understands that that’s just a fantasy. Not like Hobbes whom he insists is real all the time.
Spaceman Spiff needs better evasive maneuvers.
Ditching school then lying about it? My mom would have paddled me before sending me back to school.
“Oh, no! Space pioneer Arnold Scump inadvertently activates warp speed, directly into the sun!”
Mom, the Zark Enforcer.
Calvin came home too early and almost caught mom with the gardener.
Dear Calvin… Now this is not the end. It is not even the beginning of the end. But it is, perhaps, the end of the beginning.
Borrowed from Winston Churchill.
In Austin you have to be 2 or more miles from you home to school to be eligible to ride the bus-we are Texas tough. The distance from your home to a bus stop is 1/4 mile for elementary, 1/2 mile for middle and 1 mile for high school.
Spaceman Spiff ain’t so Spiffy after all! ;o]
Why didn’t he hide out in his Secret Fortress until school was out [= tree house]?
The phone call between parents and the school: anathema of every kid.
What, Calvin didn’t think the Zark, er, mom, would be home?
Calvin should’ve thought up or rehearsed the explanation to the Mom on the way home. Add a little more emotion and leave out the “Uh” and “Um” and maybe she’d buy it. I also get a kick out of how Calvin’s school is just called “Elementary School.”
And rumor has it that Zarks hate to be lied to. You’re in for it, Spiff…
Rule number one. If you’re going to skip school, do not, I repeat do not go home.
The last panel is Calvin’s mom chasing him after she makes the call.
We know that Calvin typically ignores his common sense, but even for a six-year-old, this is an astounding lack of foresight.
If you know at least one parent is at home, and you skip school, DON’T GO HOME. That was a rookie mistake.
Gas leak? That’s far-t from the truth! :D
Ha, I would tell my students, `There is only going to be half a day of school tomorrow morning.`
After the cheering died down would follow the explanation: `The other half will be in the afternoon.`
There was actually a gas leak at my school once. We didn’t get sent home or even leave the school grounds because of some legal issue. Then we left when some kids fainted. It took PG&E forever to get there and fix it.
I once left school in the middle of the day. I got into a lot of trouble with my parents. But I was able to walk to from school as a kid then. So with Calvin this may not be as feasible. He’s in hot water for sure though.
Well let’s see – causing a disruption at school, leaving school, walking home, telling Mom a lie. I’d say the board of education needs to meet up with Calvin’s seat of learning and review several life lessons here.
Imagine a bunch of kids with their wild fantasies boarding the school bus. The school bus must be a hell lot of fun teaming with wild ideas.
Jim Morrison and the Doors playing The End immediately came to mind.
Now he’s learned not to go home when skipping school
