You mean lies like the voting machines were rigged by Hugo Chávez. Or lies like the Rump won by a landslide. Or lies like Antifa was involved in the storming of the House. You just keep worshiping your golden god, Gorrell.
Oh. Come. On. After a weekend of CPAC where a gaggle of would-be goosesteppers competed to find even more outlandish ways to claim Trump won the election and windmills cause ice storms, this is what you think a big lie is?
In fact, there ARE limits to free speech. And there’s a logical (and ethically justifiable) reason to restrict the speech of people whose avowed intention is to tear down the system that protects free speech. It’s just the “Can’t cry fire! in a crowd” writ a little larger.
But Gorrell is engaging in what I think is probably protected speech, even though he’s lying about what the Democrats want.
Maybe IF we applied the same reasoning to Gorrell’s pronouncements, he’d be singing a different tune!! Notice that Bobby-Boi is still allowed to publish his kuhscheisse!!
Someday when all this is History, and the present sad chapter of U.S. affairs is written, it may be that political cartoons like those of Gorrell, Ramirez, Varvel, et al. will be shown in textbooks as examples of the propaganda that far-right-wing forces spewed to mislead American democracy toward near destruction. How proud will the descendants of those cartoonists be?
Grant them their right to freedom of expression, surely. But does their output drag down truth into contact with the mud of corrupting lies? Do their ever look at their paychecks, then into their mirrors, and wonder if they will at a future time be loathed by their great grandchildren?
The thin veneer has been stripped away, there is a sizable portion of Americans that are overtly racist and want segregation in this country. They want a despotic theocracy. They want to deny the vote to anyone but white “Christians” (I used "" because, while they might call themselves Christians, they aren’t. They have twisted the religion so much that it would not be recognized any longer).
These evil people once inhabited the Democratic Party and pushed Jim Crow until the late sixties until Democrats under LBJ passed the voting rights act. Then Republicans, sensing an opportunity, welcomed them into their fold. This, coupled with organizations like Faux News saw there was money to be made offered these people distorted content that they wanted to hear. Faux and others played to the fears and ignorance of these racist, hate filled Conservatives.
That is why trump’s BIG LIE worked and is working with a large number of people. As the weeks pass, trump will continue to gain traction with the BIG LIE, and others will pick up the banner, like Gorrell, and twist it to serve their purposes.
We are a broken country and it will be a generation until we are united again.
In days of old.. it was peer pressure that kept the liars shunned and ostracized. Somewhere we lost that and now liars are applauded, put on pedestals and get mega sponsors. SAD!
so now you think Trump’s attempt to steal an election is something to joke about? The disinformation the right echoed about the election being ‘stolen’ was dangerous. It led to a terrorist attack that killed 5 people.
but no, let’s talk about ‘cancel culture’
Let’s start with Colin Kaepernick
remember that time you wanted to cancel Nike over their Colin Kaepernick ad?
https://www.gocomics.com/bobgorrell/2018/09/05
or how the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette fired cartoonist Rob Rogers for doing too many cartoons that were critical of Trump and then replacing him with right wing cartoonist Steve Kelley
Just watching the video (3/2 morning) – capitol officers testifying about 1/6. They were fighting for their lives because of trump’s BIG LIE! I’m so tired of the lies the GQP, trump’s traitorous party. They need to pay!!! If not charges, at least not re-elected. I wish we could banish trump and his congress members to russia or/and saudi arabia… or Alcatraz.
Is Gorrell referring to the claim that Trumpo actually won the election (and in a landslide)? Or that the rioters in the Capitol were actually antifa and New Black Panther thugs disguised as MAGA supporters?
dis·in·for·ma·tion | \ (ˌ)dis-ˌin-fər-ˈmā-shən \Definition of disinformation: false information deliberately and often covertly spread (as by the planting of rumors) in order to influence public opinion or obscure the truth.
Gorrell, which party has dedicated TV and radio stations whose sole purpose is to spread disinformation? Between Faux Noise, Newsmax, or The Answer? Go ahead, take a wild guess.
Let’s see a little truth here Bob. Trump’s most repeated claim — 360 times — is that the U.S. economy today is the best in history. He began making this claim in June 2018, and it quickly became one of his favorites. He’s been forced to adapt for the tough economic times, and doing so has made it even more fantastic. Whereas he used to say it was the best economy in U.S. history, he now often recalls that he achieved “the best economy in the history of the world.”
That’s not true. The president once could brag about the state of the economy, but he ran into trouble when he made a play for the history books. By just about any important measure, the pre-coronavirus economy was not doing as well as it did under Presidents Dwight D. Eisenhower, Lyndon B. Johnson or Bill Clinton — or Ulysses S. Grant. Moreover, the economy was already beginning to hit the head winds caused by Trump’s trade wars, with the manufacturing sector in an apparent recession.
