Poor Opus. He never stood a chance. Now he has to extract that turtle by itself from his briefs.

After all these umpteen years of doing this, Breathed is finally getting the hang of drawing faces in profile (Milo in panel 4).

KOR: I shall need a representative from among you. Liaison between the forces of the occupation and the civil population… You, Baroner, you’re the man. KIRK: Me? I don’t want the job. KOR: Have I asked whether or not you want it? (Star Trek TOS, “Errand of Mercy”)

If he keeps that snapping turtle there, he likely won’t be too nuts for very long.

It’s probably a mere coincidence, but after Hillary Clinton proved she didn’t understand the Electoral College as much as Vladimir Putin did, I’ve been re-reading a lot of dystopian classics. You know, “Brave New World” and “1984” and “Animal Farm” and “Fahrenheit 451” and far too many to mention. My second favorite book (after Huck Finn) is “Catch 22”, which I re-read recently, and I will bet two Yossarians and half a McWatt that THAT is dystopian literature!

Before there was “Apocalypse Now”, there was “Catch-22”, an incredible book made into a credible movie. You were not allowed to go on bombing missions in the European Theater in World War II, if you were crazy. Claiming you were crazy to avoid going on a mission was considered proof of your sanity. That’s the original “Catch-22”.

“There was only one catch and that was Catch-22, which specified that a concern for one’s safety in the face of dangers that were real and immediate was the process of a rational mind. Orr was crazy and could be grounded. All he had to do was ask; and as soon as he did, he would no longer be crazy and would have to fly more missions. Orr would be crazy to fly more missions and sane if he didn’t, but if he were sane he had to fly them. If he flew them he was crazy and didn’t have to, but if he didn’t want to he was sane and had to. Yossarian was moved very deeply by the absolute simplicity of this clause of Catch-22 and let out a respectful whistle.”

I called him Zaphod before he was elected. I don’t say it much now because it turned out to be too niche-y a joke.

Run, run, as fast as a penguin can!

You won’t catch up to the 22 (23? 24?) wannabes of the Left.

You need not fear being elected. Won’t happen. Still, Opus and Bill is quite a ticket!

Who wants to be the President? (I don’t) Have every whack-job on you vent (I don’t) Be called the devil’s spawn or even a cur? (Or even a cur – do I want? No, sir!) – With apologies to Cole Porter (High Society, 1956)

I think it was Robert A. Heinlein who said something to the effect that those who most want political office are the least qualified to hold it. Or maybe it was mark twain…

I like all the comments referring to the “Hitchhikers’ Guide…”, but it’s interesting to me that only one person referenced Joseph Heller’s book, “Catch-22”. Maybe “HG” is just more popular, but “Catch-22” is a hilarious book and well worth the read.
