The fish I can understand. But insisting on sustainable coffee? What does that mean? They don’t use wild coffee bushes.

To be fair where I’m from finding ethically-produced coffee (i.e. not from Nestlé or Douwe Egberts) is a non-trivial problem.

Years ago, I was mentally smashing a plate over a client’s head as he declared he was vegetarian and spent several minutes pouring over the lunch menu. After finally choosing the vegetable soup, the waitress told him it used a chicken broth, and the search resumed.

When people make these type of requests, they are making a statement about their values. They are expressing what they believe in, and they are willing to back their beliefs by paying for them. This is not a bad thing. On the contrary, it is something to be admired.

If he is so conscious of sustainable sources, why is he eating out? restaurants notoriously waste food because they want to serve perfectly cut servings. If you ever want to be truly disgusted, go look at a restaurant’s garbage bin.Enough food in one day to feed a family for a week.

Had a lady ask for a ‘Cruelty-free’ turkey at the store last Thanksgiving. Lady, they been beheaded, gutted, plucked, and are laying in a meat case. Anyway you look at it, cruelty was involved.

. . . “sustainable” or not, check out where the meat or fish was processed. Fish, chicken, and other meat is being sent to China to be processed. Who knows under what sanitary conditions? Reading the label might help, though the FDA is less concerned, these days. :’(
