It’s been a hard week for me with this strip. Spoiler alert: I hate fat jokes, and that’s what most of this week was.
Interesting end, though. RJ calls out Verne for being preachy. (Sort of calls him out) Then Verne concedes that maybe there isn’t that much readership, anyway.
Maybe next week, we can get back to politics and global warming.
Considering how over-the-top Hammy has gotten over the years, I think two Verns would provide a good balance. Plus, as Imaginarium said, sharing cow dropping would ease Vern #1’s life a bit and give him a chance to regrow the sense of humor he used to have.
I can handle all of it except the “fanny pack” to one side. It’s just not ergonomic. It will make your Spock ears tilt and throw off your chess game. Trust me, I know. :)

Ten Likes so far. More than seven, by my accounting.

I’m kinda nodding. RJ’s a 1D character. He needs more sides.

Yes, yes! More Vernes! More young RJ’s. Fewer snarky, self-indulgent, over-consumers.

A twinkaholic sounds very unsavory.

Rj needs to get away from the Twinkies and get back to the guy we love. Fat is very unattractive and discussing. I know I am fat and I hate it.

As I glance over at the comments, prior to mine…..7! So that means all 7 of the fans left a comment!

Well RJ if you become a “Verne” now you must share cow dropping duties ! OR just switch places : Verne becomes RJ and RJ becomes Verne ;-)

If he really doesn’t like who he used to be, why does RJ keep revealing more (flossing, NPR) of his nerdy old self?

for the record, i nodded ‘yes’.

If he listens to Wait Wait… Don’t Tell Me!, I am totally down with a second Verne.

How does one go from “junk food toxins” to “fat jokes”?

RJ and Hammy represent two sides of childhood:
Me centric (RJ)
Wildly imaginative where anything is possible (Hammy)
I like that. Vern represents adults. You need the balance.

One Verne is enough. (1 of 7).

I think RJ is concerned about the consequences of being Verne, I mean getting a cow dropped on you would ruin your day.

Six and a half of them. I only tune in once in a while.

I don’t know – I’m all for seeing a chess game between Verne and RJ … it could be a new “Searching for Bobby Fischer” moment Over the Hedge style!
