Hans Conried had a long and distinguished career in (mostly) comedy. Before his tv/movie roles, he was probably best known as the neighbor in My Friend Irma on the radio. (I think he reprised the role in the movie version.)

Hans never did Wile E. Coyote. That was Mel Blanc.

Rick went way back for this one. I was in elementary school when I watched Make Room for Daddy. I turned 67 this year.

Only old folks will get this gag. ‘Make Room For Daddy’ was a TV show that aired in the 50’s and 60’s. It starred Danny Thomas [father of Marlo Thomas who would star in her own sitcom, ‘That Girl’ in the 70’s.]. Though not particularly noteworthy itself, the show spawned a virtual sitcom dynasty. In collaboration with Sheldon Leonard, Danny Thomas went on to create and produce several seminal TV series including ‘The Andy Griffith Show’, ‘The Dick Van Dyke Show’ , ‘Gomer Pyle, USMC’ and a surprisingly outstanding drama, ‘I Spy’ that kick started Bill Cosby’s TV career. ‘The Andy Griffith Show’ got its start as an episode of ‘The Danny Thomas Show’ [renamed from ‘Make Room For Daddy’] in which Thomas’ character is arrested for running a stop sign while passing through the tiny town of Mayberry. That program generated a ton of fan mail asking for more of Sheriff Andy Taylor so Thomas and Leonard decided to give him his own show which turned out quite well for all parties. Ironically, of all the shows in that dynasty, ‘Make Room For Daddy’ is the least remembered or celebrated.

And since the subject is Danny Thomas, he will always be best remembered as the real life founder of St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.

Yikes. I’m nearly ‘there’ but MR4D, that’s 1953. My parents hadn’t even found me in the rhubarb patch, so they say, by then.

Swoose. As in “Charlie the Swoose”. A children’s book from the 1930s. In WWII a B-17 was all beat up and cannibalized for parts. Soon other B-17s were cannibalized for parts and many of them went into one aircraft that was part D, E & F models of the B-17. The aircraft commander, a man by the name of Frank Kurtz, named the plane “The Swoose” because it was “part swan, part goose.” He later named his daughter Swoosie. She is the first known example of a girl being named after an airplane instead of the usual other way around. My plane, a Cessna P337G is named [REDACTED] after the character in Greek mythology and Japanese manga and anime. My screen name is a clue.
