Cuba is a communist dictatorship. Be clear about that. What we don’t want here is a dictatorship where one man decides our policies. In the last election, the GOP did not present a platform, instead saying that they would follow whatever Trump said. That’s a dictatorship

Many Americans think socialism, communism, fascism are all the same thing, and lump them together. They call people communists one day, and socialists the next. When that fails, they call people liberals. Sheesch.

One of these days, republicans will understand what socialism is… as compared to communism. We need civics classes back in school curriculums.

In truth, with communism and socialism, where the distinction between a laboring class and owner class is dissolved, freedom and democracy can flourish; however, there would also be a massive redistribution of wealth. The vast majority of Americans would see an increase in their wealth, health, and well-being, but this also means that the wealthy property owners of today, with their billions of dollars of assets, would become mere millionaires…While these describe economic systems of production, the terms “socialism” and especially “communism” have been commandeered for political motives and attached to authoritarian government regimes that restrict personal freedom. – Investopedia

Mikey the Right Wing Nut Job that he is ( on the payroll of the ghost of Republican gambling magnate Sheldon Adelson) Believes the quintessential aspect of the Cuban government is Socialism and that Denmark, Sweden and other successful socialist leaning nations don’t offer us any lessons.

The most important aspect of the Cuban government is Dictatorship like the kind of Government that Trump wanted to create by overthrowing the US constitution.

Cuba was for 60 years a "Cult of Personality dictatorship of Fidel Castro. The Republicans want to create a Cult of personality around a failed TV Star that has run his fathers billion dollar empire into bankruptcy.

Growing up I had two friends that were Cuban refugees. They and their parents could tell some pretty awful stories about why they left. The other side of the coin is that they could tell some pretty awful stories about what it was like BEFORE Castro.

Batista was the US backed dictator of Cuba. He was brutal and corrupt. So corrupt that he was cutting deals with the US Mafia. All that repression and corruption was cool with the US as long as Cuba stayed anti-communist. The average Cuban was happy to see Batista go. And the poor felt they were better off with Castro – try as they might, the US could not get the Cubans to rise up against him.

The thread that runs through the Cuba story is this: the US is fine with repressive regimes as long as they are willing to play ball with us. Saudi Arabia can order journalist murdered, execute dissidents, repress women, etc, but they are on our side so we’re cool with that.

Cuban leaders, on the other hand are monsters.

“liberty” and “socialism” aren’t even on the same scale, they are two completely different concepts.

The opposite of liberty is a dictatorshipWhere as socialism is an economic model that compares to capitalism

Cubans and other “socialist” countries that Ramirez mocks are a problem because they are a dictatorship and lack democracy, not because they pretend to be socialist.

Countries that are fully democratic and have socialist policies are doing just fine.

Bwahaha Berzerkeley, that says it all along with going to Cuba to harvest sugar cane. Say, why would a workers paradise need outside help for their harvest? Answer- they didn’t, that was just a glorified field trip for communist wannabes who did not at all live under same conditions or eat the same food as the Cuban slave laborers. Nah, they wined and dined with the overseers. Wonder if Bernie Sanders was a roommate. Brings to mind an acid tripping, pot head hippy who no doubt hopscotched from one failed commune to another. It does put in context all the antiAmerican, communist loving rhetoric along with the old USSR’s propaganda apparatchiks standard use of lies, disinformation and propaganda. Yeah, while I was training and working in the 70s with the USA’s intelligence services someone else was being groomed as an antiAmerican communist subversive. Learned the lessons well. Hahaha, the faux outrage and naivety of someone who realizes they’re on the FBI’s radar screen after attending a training and indoctrination vacation in communist Cuba.

Sigh, I have relatives in Cuba who are slowly starving and have limited access to health care. No Covid-19 vaccinations for them. We try to send them money, food, medicines etc, but it is too often intercepted and confiscated by Raul Castro’s thugs. I have first hand knowledge of the true conditions among the common people of Cuba. Meanwhile the Cuban communist party members live high on the hog while the elites enjoy a lifestyle equivalent to American billionaires.
