Caulfield: If blueprint Bob builds a 29-floor addition on his 54-floor skyscraper, how tall is it?
Frazz: "96 tiers" is wrong.
Caulfield: No, it's incorrect. The whole "story problem" gag is wrong.
Ok… 4 people above got it…it has nothing to do with the math..it’s a joke…and not a great one…. which is why Caulfield says it’s both wrong and incorrect…..
No, you can’t do the math without knowing the height of a story…but you can be made to say Ninety-Six Tears.

How tall is a story? (floor)No standard given and the question is the height not the number of floors or stories.
KeepKeeper about 9 years ago
since the numbers are known and y is not known, it is impossible to find what x is

Story problems just make you wanna cry, cry, cry, cry…

How many when you add the Mysterians?
alviebird about 9 years ago
I’m gonna cry, cry, cry, cry.
Erichalfbee about 9 years ago
Considering the lack of units other than story, the correct answer must be 83 stories tall.
Erichalfbee about 9 years ago
Well, Floors actually.
whiteheron about 9 years ago
Does the tester want to know how tall the building is in feet or floors? and would the correct answer include any antenna and lightning protection?

Darn! BrassOrchid, Stew Beck and the bird55 beat me to all the musically relevant jokes! I feel like Garland Jeffreys, here!
Island Boy about 9 years ago
I apologize for misspelling Stew Bek. Also – notice the “?” on Frazz’ shirt!
In the day there were rumors that ? was John Kay (Steppenwolf). I think the guy (?) claimed to actually be from Mars or someplace. Great song, though!

96 Beers?

Bravo Mr. Mallet, bravo. The “?” on Frazz’s shirt should have given this away!

HA… He would never get the permits from the zoning commission for the extra floors. Unless he paid out a lot of baksheesh.

Considering that song came out in the mid-60s, it helps to be in a certain age group to get the joke. I had no trouble figuring it out.

The comments are making me cry, cry, cry. It’s a “story” problem. Get it?

If tales are stories, the person who tells the tallest one wins.My bet is on Paul Bunyan.

He’s gonna cry, cry, cry, cry — 96 TIERS! It’s too much for one heart to carry on.
For those of you wondering, look up the old song 96 Tears.

Sites credit Rudy Martinez as the voice of ? Although the Mysterians were formed by Larry Borjas and evolved from there.

well, 5 minutes.

Its still only 54 stories tall, the 29 story addition was to the back of the building as a parking garage. (Average height of most floors is 10 ft.)

“Blueprint Bob” — Must be Bob the Builder’s besty.
Oh, and Mallett has been smoking too much Pastis.
hippogriff about 9 years ago
And that doesn’t even get into basement floors or the British convention of the first storey being on top of the ground storey.
Nick Danger about 9 years ago
The only units given are floors, so the only correct answer in the terms the problem uses is 83 floors.

Somewhere around the corner, Rat from PBS is waiting with a bat to inflict harm upon Mr. Mallett.

The name was actually “? and the Mysterians”, which orally can only be rendered as “Question Mark and The Mysterians”.

Speaking of oldies, how many people here ever actually saw Sam the Sham and the Pharaohs?
