If the Court ruled the other way, a host of repug-dominated states would immediately move to kick Biden off their ballots, probably using the same garbage narratives James Comer has been pitching for the sham impeachment hearings. Then they’d go after Black and Brown candidates who support books and immigrant services, as a different kind of "insurrection.” In other words, no matter what the Court did, the cons would weaponize it. Just because they’d have no legal leg to stand on, doesn’t mean they wouldn’t do it. Paxton would do it in a heartbeat, simply because he’s mean and vindictive and nobody can stop him. They have no care at all for the citizens of Texas. All they care about is those donors who give them their marching orders and pay them very well for obeying those orders.

What they left intact by doing it this way:

    1. The fact-finding in CO that trump engaged in insurrection;

    2. The legal finding that the 14th Amendment applies to people who’ve previously taken the oath of office as President just as much as to any other public officer.

Both of those could — one hopes (fervently!!!) signal that there’s hope for a favorable ruling on the immunity case, which IMO is the one they have to get right.

In the meantime, keep pushing that anyone who had their hands in January 6 or in the broader scheming to keep trump President despite the actual vote is too disloyal and traitorous to risk having in public office. That goes for everyone from trump to complicit members of Congress to Governors and Attorneys General and Secretaries of State and everyone who served as fake electors.

“Insurrection” is a total con put out by the dems and their propaganda media. Only the brainwashed wokes fall for it.

This is proof that the brainwashing has really damaged their minds. The wokes can’t even think clearly enough to realize that nobody has been charged with “insurrection,” and it’s been years now.

The court did not deal with “insurrection” because there is no case or charge of “insurrection.” The only “insurrection” is that put out by the propagandists. These wokes can’t figure it out.

The Supreme Court ruling says congress must pass a law defining insurrection. It seems an impeachment conviction (but not removal from office) by congress is not enough for the court.

They kicked the can… it was fairly narrow decision, but TFG does need to be tried for insurrection, no matter what the denier above thinks; it was indeed an attempted insurrection. And if you think it won’t happen again when TFG loses, you’ve another thing coming.

The Supreme Court didn’t put out one ruling. There were three different responses drafted, but none of them disputed the facts found by the Colorado Supreme Court, stating that Trump’s actions qualified as “committing insurrection”. The ruling submitted by three of the justices actually referred to Donald Trump as an “oath-breaking insurrectionist”.

Hot potato = very bad image. SCOTUS’s decision to kick this can down the road two months is the opposite of a hot potato. SCOTUS is handling it exactly as Trump wants it to—it creates a two-month delay in his insurrection trial before the election.

Notice that SCOTUS was extraordinarily prompt in ruling that states can’t keep his name off their ballots. On that issue Trump wanted speed.

One can only hope, that other democracies, witnessing how a political duopoly can override the check/balance safeguards in the US Constitution, and, potentially, in a single election cycle, create an authoritarian state that will be a democratic republic, in name only - like North Korea - will take the precaution to avoid this weakness.

I’ve been trying to figure out why THE WORLD has gone so right-wing, ‘cause it ain’t just here – it’s everywhere – it seems.

Possibly because the Baby Boomers’ majority have been eclipsed in numbers by the next generations X, Y, Z, whatever. The old geezers (like me) were brought up in a post-war time of plenty, in terms of hope, personal potential, life, liberty, and that happiness thingy – (as long as you are white). Owning a home was within our grasp – not so much now. Younger folks now have the added burden of Social Security for geezers that have outlived their expectancies, while they might not be covered when their time comes, yet they still must pay those. increasing. costs. Couple that with McConnell and Trump’s loading the Supreme Court with God-shtupping zealots that believe that conception of a human being occurs when papa gets a woody, and any law broken is OK if a Republican does it, and so on. Part of that effort is, since birth control and abortion was permitted, folks just didn’t have enough children to grow up, get jobs, and pay for their elders’ care (Social Security and Medicare/Medicaid). So they fixed it. Every sperm is enabled and accounted for now, or will be, when Birth Control is outlawed. Stay tuned.

I read an article in the Canadian Press that showed immigration is key to Canada’s problem – which is the same as ours. Immigration will bring in people who’ll get jobs and pay taxes that will support Canadian geezers. But in the US, where so many immigrants are clamoring to come here that the uneducated population fear the loss of their jobs to immigrants who will work for decidedly less compensation. And, because higher education in the US is far more expensive than during Baby Boomers’ times, and without the draft, fewer applicants for GI BILL education subsidies – US citizens will remain – in the main – undereducated compared to other countries’ citizens. And that’s not a good thing.

So, underemployed or unemployed uneducated individuals look at anyone that doesn’t look, or act like them with HATRED. This HATRED lit the fire (famously, you can’t have HATRED without RED HAT) and attention-seeking, greedy, miscreants have fanned the flames until we have, well, what we have.

Speaking as a geezer myself, I invoke the words of one Billy Joel:

    We didn’t start the fire . . .

The civil courts won’t do it.The criminal courts won’t do it.The 14th Amendment won’t do it.The Establishment Republicans won’t do it.

It’s always been up to the voters. What will they do?

Clever. They didn’t say there wasn’t an insurrection or that he wasn’t responsible. They just said they aren’t the right ones to decide — they aren’t the right group to interpret the 14th Amendment of Constitution. The highest court [which is the final arbiter of the law, charged with ensuring the American people the promise of equal justice under law, and also the guardian and interpreter of the Constitution] in the land waffled! I guess they are worried he will turn on them like he does everyone who disagrees with him. It’s not like he can fire them — although he may decide he should have that power as well.

It is puzzling to me that there are no actual qualifications for being a US Supreme Court Justice. They don’t have to have any knowledge of U. S. law or the U. S. Constitution. They just have to be nominated by the President and confirmed by the Senate.

MAGA-GOP is very clear: End Democracy. They are stating it as their intention. They have SCOTUS, they have the House, they just need the Senate and the Oval Office.

Thank goodness Chris Coo ns was able to get to his Valentine’s Day date in time so the Senate wouldn’t have to call any witnesses in trump’s second impeachment, thus absolving the Congress of settling the matter once and for all… /s
