OMG, tomorrow Crank’s going to say “But not as much as I love—EARLY ’60s DC COMICS!”

It’s CANON that Ed was illiterate until just a few years ago, or decades ago, or the Cambrian Explosion, who knows what time means in the Battyverse. But, wow, he’s HIP to the KIDS TODAY with something Tom just found about, and by “kids today” he means a Hot Topic in a 2005 mall .

So does this discussion of dystopic fictional futures lead into the promised “burnings”?

This is twice in 3 days that Lillian has told Ed “Huh, weird. All along, I thought you were stupid.” Ed accepts the thinly veiled insult with a mild smirk. “I mean, like ‘put your shoes and socks on in that order’ stupid. When you said you were ‘street smart, not book smart!’ you meant you were as smart as the chunks of asphalt curbs your plow throws in our roads every winter. Well, back to lying under my sunlamp to eat live crickets.”

Honestly.. I like the crankshaft stuff a lot more. Yes he can be a jerk.. but generally he can also be funny when their not doing the same malproper gag every month. I like the slapstick. I don’t like Tom Bautik doint a whole arc basically goign “REMEMBER THIS STRIP.. THAT MOST OF YOU PROBABLY READ SINCE THESE STRIPS HAVE A LOT OF OVERLAP BOTH BY FANS AND PEOPLE POINTING AND LAUGHING AT MY INCOMPETENCE? IT SURE WAS GREAT WASN’T IT”. I don’t mind Tom bringing in elements from Funky, it’s a common thing for a spinoff to get bits of the mothership if it ends before they do. But that arc creeped into him just.. flat out writing an arc of funny and without a bearded man being irate at it, it’s just not entertaning.

Batiuk thinks if he dips his toes into progressive politics some more, it will spawn that Pulitzer Prize he so desperately wants.

    “…you read science fiction!”

Anybody who reads the “news” these days gets more than enough fictional “science”.

    Crankshaft “read”?

What do you think he is doing when he blocks traffic with the school bus?

    Listening to audio books.
